Cantilever staircase is real!

Usually architects struggle to find a landing support inorder to rest the staircase and even spoil their planning in location of the staircase. This type of free cantilever staircase doesn't need a support at its half landing could be a great relief to the architects even adding aesthetic value.

Earthquake knows where to hit!

The collapse pattern of Nautale Durbar at Basantapur Durbar Square, Kathmandu shows that structures do have inherent weak locations. This 250 yrs. old nine-storied historic monumental durbar structure with 72" thick wall at its base suffered similar damage pattern with a complete collapse of top two storeys in 1934 (M8.4) & 2015 (M7.9) earthquakes.

The primary job of any structural engineer is to identify such weak locations and to make it withstand against all such seen-unseen forces. The application of regular building codes is definitely not sufficient if we really care for the safety of structures. Use of expertise and judgement of an expert structural engineer is essential.

The correct approach on bar bending schedule of column rebars. Lapping on column rebars shall be placed at the mid height of any storey. No lapping shall be done nearby the beam column joints.
