Wake up, babe. NASA's James Webb Space Telescope dropped a new infrared image of Saturn.

On June 25, the powerful observatory detected the planetโ€™s faint moons and looked at its icy rings. Methane gas in Saturnโ€™s atmosphere absorbs light, so it appears darker here. https://go.nasa.gov/3px3VKE

The event as massive to get seen by 70 observatories around the globe and in space was the first combined detection of gravitation waves and gamma radiation. The explosive event, GW170817 observed on August 2017 was an extraordinary collision of two netron stars. After several years of research on Hubble Space Telescope data and data from multiple radio telescopes the explosion site was pin pointed which was just like measuring the diameter of a 12 inch pizza on the surface of moon from earth. And finally now it had made a significant breakthrough in the field of Time Domain and Multi-Messenger Astrophysics. The blast released energy comparable to that of a supernova explosion and the jet emitted have the velocity 99.97% the speed of light approaching directly towards the Earth.

As a young professor at University of Chicago in his 30s, Parker developed the mathematical theory that predicted the solar wind- the constant outflow of solar material from sun. In the times when everyone thought sun to be a static body bringing the concept of solar wind as an outflow from the sun understood in terms of fluid dynamics was the major breakthrough in the understanding of sun and all other stars and the universe in itself.
Eugene Newman Parker born on 10th june, 1927, in Michigan became the first person to have a major space mission named after him while being alive and witness the launch of the spacecraft bearing his name on 12th Aug. 2018. He has been hailed as the father of solar physics (heliophysics) and is best known as the man who single-handedly and despite many eminent critics- came up with the theory of the solar wind. His concept was deemed utterly absurd and his theory dismissed as โ€œridiculousโ€. However, as far as Parker was concerned, it โ€œwas open and shut". He would have to wait four years for science to catch up and validate his theory. It was accepted only when NASA's Mariner 2 spacecraft passed by Venus in 1962 dtectected the presence of a syrong aolar wind of particles, gas, dust and magnetic field lines changing out of sun. With that , the world began to discover Eugene Parker. Today his work has lead us to understand the nature of solar wind, solr cycles and how they effect the surroundings of planets by protecting them from cosmic radiations. Meanwhile solar wind effects the communication networks and satellites orbiting the earth including ISS. And now his theory has totally changed the way scientist thought about sun and host stars of other planetary systems. Among his most important contributions is the fundamental backbone of the increasingly important field of space weather โ€” the solar and cosmic particles and embedded magnetic forces that can endanger astronauts, make satellites malfunction and even fry electric grids on Earth.
"Gene had a deep, really fantastic physical sense of how things work in nature. He had insight into how a star might arrange itself, what were the right kinds of motionsโ€ to make a dynamo work. โ€œAnd then he had the talent on the mathematical side to figure out the equations that would substantiate that picture. It was almost miraculous.โ€ - Rosner
Parker was hugely admired by many for his creative mind and no-nonsense approach to most everything.Parker had his own distinctive way of doing science and of conducting daily life. He was independent in all things, marching to his own drummer and always setting a high bar.He expected his students to come up with their own ideas, to look for their own fundamental problems, and to work on them with both smarts and dedication โ€” just as he did. Parker was always more interested in the fundamentals and was happy to leave incremental work based on his findings to others. And his this passion for his research and study of solar physics made him an active physicists for 75 years while being professor at University of Chicago for more than 60 years. And he continued writing research papers in the field of heliophysics till his 90's just few years before he passed away at the age of 94 on March 15, 2022.

NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite - TESS discovered HD 260655 b and HD 260655 c only 33 light years orbiting a red dwarf star are among the closest known rocky planets yet found. The super earth terrestrial worlds are about 1.2 (planet b) and 1.5(planet c) times the size of earth. Although none is likely to support life, they got atmospheres which make them top 10 candidates for atmospheric characterization which will be done by NASA's James Webb Space Telescope among all terrestrial exoplanets so far discovered.
The giant James Webb Space Telescope, soon to deliver its first science images, can examine the atmospheres of exoplanets โ€“ planets beyond our solar system โ€“ to search for water, carbon molecules and other components.

The two farthest planets of our solar system, similar in mass, size and atmospheric conditions still appears different, Why?
The concentration of haze particles in the middle layer of atmosphere of Uranus (left) is thicker than that of Neptune (right) giving Uranus brighter whiten appearance. If there was no haze particles present, both planets would appear equally blue in colour due to the scattering of blue light by hydrogen atoms in methan molecules in their atmosphere. This research was possible by the spectrographic data obtained from Hubble Space Telescope

Yeah, We are talking about Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell who discovered Pulsars, the cosmic sources of peculiar radio pulses. The story of finding today's astrophysical Swiss Army Knives started in the days when she was a research student at University of Cambridge. In 1967 when Bell Burnell was working with Anthony Hewish, an astronomer at Cambridge who wanted to find more quasars. Hewish luckily had graduate students ( Bell Burnell being the one) to built a new radio telescope. And after the telescope was built she was the first person to run the telescope and in the first six months discovered about a hundred more quasars, at the time when Cambridge had only one computer for the entire University. While reviewing the printouts of her experiments monitoring quasars, she discovered a series of extremely regular radio pulses. When it was confirmed that Burnell had captured a repeating string of radio pulses spaced a bit more than a second apart, her advisor Hewish labelled the scruffy pulses LGM-1 for Little Green Men, as he was convinced the signal was artificial. But she knew it wasn't. After monitoring the pulses using more sensitive equipment, her team discovered more regular patterns of radio waves that determined they were emanating from rapidly spinning neutron star, later called Pulsars. Hewish and Martin Ryle were awarded the 1974 Nobel Prize in Physics for the discovery of Pulsars (Bell Burnell was omitted since she was student at the time of discovery).
The person who was to discover something that would reveal a new tool for solving many mysteries of cosmos including fundamental theories in physics, detect gravitational waves, navigate the cosmic ocean and many more expresses herself as besieged by an extreme case of imposter syndrome during her University days. She recalled, " I was quite sure they'd made a mistake admitting me, they'd discover their mistake and throw me out. But I was a bit of a fighter and said that untill they throw me out, I will work my very hardest, so that when they do throw me out, I won't have a guilty conscience. I'll know I've done my best." And indeed it was her hardest work that has served science reach this height in the field of astronomy.
Besides discovering Pulsars, she worked in gamma rays, X-rays, Infrared and millimeter wavelength astronomy and serves as the president of Royal Astronomical Society(2002-04). She has spent her career working to lift up women and minorities in science. 51 years after her discovery, She was awarded $3-Million Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics which she donated to the charity in U.K whose mission is to support physics graduate students from under-represented groups. And it was not just for her discovery of Neutron star but also for her "lifetime of inspiring scientific leadership".
