Our Tibet riding season is now underway and our first group is currently ascending to Lhasa and Everest Base Camp. The party continues!

TRAIL OF LEGENDS!

Nepal is not always about the mountains. Actually, in reality most of the villages are located in the fertile mid-hills and the terai towards the south, not in the high-Himalaya.

The roads are also generally more developed in these areas and the hotels/lodgings of a higher standard simply due to having better access to materials and personnel.

So if you prefer less challenging terrain, staying in great lodges, riding quaint village roads, experiencing wildlife, and understanding the Nepal which locally defines the country, then the Trail of Legends tour could be for you!

The Legends in the photo below are from Germany and Australia. They just returned from the 7-day tour and they had a brilliant time.

Locki, Trent, Scott, Mick, James, Geoff, Tony, Rory and John are back from Upper Mustang. The Aussie lads had a brilliant time and we thank them for riding with us!

John wrote me a quick email which pretty much sums up how we operate at H&T.

"Hi Matt, just wanted to let you know that the trip was the best trip I’ve had in a long time. Mama, Shakti, Krishna and Hem are very professional at their jobs and made the trip so much fun. Back to base from Upper Mustang, Nepal!

Our most recent group of adventure riders hail (mainly) from the USA. Jesse got in contact about 8 months ago about putting a trip together to Upper Mustang after her good friend, Steve Park, mentioned the various trips he has done with H&T. Steve is currently riding his T7 throughout Sth America and would have otherwise joined another trip I'm sure!

So last week, Jesse, Blake, Braulio, Gwyn, Finn, Dan and Greg (UK) embarked on their ride to Upper Mustang lead by Prabinhood and maintained by Surya, the doctor!

The pictures say it all and an amazing time was had by all!

Thanks guys for riding with us and having a great time. I hope to see you on another H&T tour somewhere in the world!

Father & Son trip

I received an email from Ed in March 2023 about trying to fit in a motorcycle tour in the Himalayas during their to short trip to India and Nepal. Ed and his son Jacob are both busy guys living in different time zones in the USA, but we managed to have several phone calls together during the planning stage about what tour would suit them best.

In February 2024, Ed and Jacob made it to Pokhara after spending some time in India. The HTMC crew then rode with them on private/custom trip to Muktinath. Needless to say, a great time was had by all!

Thanks Ed and Jacob for riding with us and I hope you guys have some super special memories to hold on to forever!

And for any riders out there looking for a customised riding experience, let us know!

A few months ago I had a chat with Irek from Krakow about putting together a custom tour for him and his mates. We ended up having dinner somewhere in Poland to go through the details of the trip. And sure enough, the gang made it over to Nepal and just completed an amazing 9-day ride heading south through the mid-hills and flat lands near India before turning north and climbing to Mustang.

Thanks very much guys! It was a pleasure and I look forward to catching up again!

2025 TOURS ARE LIVE!

Back in 2014, I rode to Upper Mustang for the first time. I actually did the trip with my old man on his 60th birthday, and it remains one of the greatest adventures to date. It was after this trip that we added Upper Mustang to our line-up of tours and started running organised trips to Lo Manthang - Tibet's Last Forbidden Kingdom.

The first trip was in 2015 with a great group of guys from Australia. It was tough! We battled snow storms, landslides, we needed to dig our way through meters of snow. I recall that in one-day we managed to move only 7km! Upper Mustang is still to an incredible ride, but boy it was a different beast in the early days when roads were little more than goats trails etched into the hillside.

In light of the feat, I wrote an article for a local publication in Nepal called ESC Nepal. I found a copy of the magazine the other day and thought I'd post it.

If you haven't ridden Upper Mustang in Nepal yet, then now is the time. We just listed our line-up for 2025 so I hope we can journey there together and show you what all the fuss is about ;)

What a season it has been! And it's not over yet!

We've had a busy one at the Hearts & Tears headquarters. So much so that I just realised we haven't made any posts for a while! So in the coming days I will put up some snaps from the season to show case the many smiles and good times!

We operate like a family at Hearts & Tears and I am very proud of my crew for the consistent professional approach they give but also the light hearted fun they bring to the tours. I honestly don't think you could find a better bunch of guys to ride with.

Thanks to all our riders for making the trip out to the Himalayas and diving into the adventure. A lot goes into making the decision to travel to such a far away destination and the commitment doesn't come easy! But from the moment you arrive and encompass the Hearts & Tears spirit, I am sure it is worth it!

Not a bad first day in Ulaanbaatar!

We managed to get tickets to the opening ceremony of the annual Nadaam Festival which really was something special. For about 2hrs we watched some of Mongolia's finest horsemanship, archery, dance and music. I was not expecting something so grand! Thousands of participants put on the show which will last for a few days before we head into the wilderness.

As far as adventure riding goes, Georgia really is a hidden-gem which won't stay hidden for much longer! On the doorstep of Europe with access to most major European destinations in under 8hrs of travel and less than $500 in airfares, it's a hard place to beat. The landscapes, food, people, history and sense of freedom all come together to create a very special experience for the traveller.

Day 2 - Oni to Tskaltubo

Another great day on the bikes. We followed a new route south west of our typical paved road which paid off as the off-road section coupled with incredible black top was amazing. Definitely doing more of this on future trips. 😊 Next stop is the mountains of Mestia!!

Tour of Georgia - Day 1

Tbilisi to Oni, 280km. What a great start to the trip! We took the guys on some off-road trails and boy was it fun! Mud mud and more mud on 80/20 tyres made for a slip and slide show with tonnes of laughs. All the guys are great enduro riders so they soaked up the conditions. We're all pumped for what's to come!!

This September, we have a few places left on our tour to Everest Base Camp.

After a successful tour last month (the first in 3 years due to covid!), we are excited to ride to base camp again and continue offering the Tibet trip on our regular line-up of tours.

TIBET - Lhasa, MAY 2023

It's nearly time for the climb to Everest Base Camp! The group has been in Tibet for several days now and are starting to get used to existing at 4000m+. It's not easy spending days on end at such great heights but it's amazing how the body responds and adapts to the conditions.

The crew have traversed the Tibetan plateau to the far east and have made it to Lhasa! The home of the Potala Palace - widely regarded as the epicentre of the Buddhist world. It's incredible to walk through the hallways and rooms, admiring the many shrines, monasteries, statues, and general grandeur of this special place.

Our next trip to Tibet is in September 2023. We have 3 places remaining on that tour so if you'd like to jump aboard let me know!
