On 30 May 1866, under this pomegranate tree, the foundations of Darul Uloom Deoband was laid out.
First ustaadh was Mulla Mahmood رحمة الله عليه and first student was Mahmoodul Hassen, later came to be known as Shiekhul Hind Hazrat Moulana Mahmoodul Hassen رحمة الله عليه.
Over 120 years later, this tree remained healthy until it was cut; the average life span being 15-20 years.
