It’s kitten season, and we need your help!

If you want to help vulnerable animals, but aren’t ready for the long-term commitment of adoption, then fostering could be for you ❤️

Over the next few months, we’re expecting thousands of cats and kittens to come into our care. Many will need time to grow, recover, and heal before they’re ready for adoption – this is where you can come in!

SPCA provides everything you need to foster, including food, bedding, toys, and medication if required. It’s not just cats and kittens that need short-term foster care, but animals like puppies and dogs, rabbits, and farm animals too.

Sign up to foster over on our website today: https://www.spca.nz/foster24

For us humans, Halloween lollies and chocolate are fun seasonal treats – but it's important to remember that the same can’t be said for our animal friends 🍬🚫

Sugar-free lollies and chocolate of all kinds present a big danger to pets, as their bodies can't digest them like ours can. Eating them can lead to severe illness and even death. This Halloween, please be sure to stay vigilant around your pets, and make sure the only treats they consume are ones made for them!

Shout out to Petdirect for the incredible donation to our Mangere Centre and our Community Support Programme! This couldn’t have come at a better time as we prepare for the busy summer period. Thanks Pet Direct warehouse team for the convenient labels. Zoe the pup is checking out the goodies and is thoroughly confused while in typical cat fashion James only wants to play in the box.

Today we'd like to give a special shoutout to Matilda and her friends, who have proven that you're never too young to make a difference for the animals! ❤️

Matilda is only 10 years old, and has created a Girl Scouts group at her school with the primary goal of fundraising for SPCA 🥰 They kicked off their efforts by selling cookies at the beach, and their passion led them to organise a cookie sale at school, raising nearly $300.

Pictured here, Riley, Matilda, and Lorenzo came to our Māngere Centre to meet the puppies and see how their donations will be put to work. Our team member Caitlin introduced them to little Lisa (who is indeed available for adoption!), who was thrilled to meet them.

A big thank you to Matilda and her friends, on behalf of the animals! 🐶😸

Have you been considering adopting a dog or puppy? Now’s the time, with 25% off all canine adoption fees from 5 to 20 October!

As dog adoptions slow in the colder months, winter was a difficult time for New Zealand’s pups – but with school holidays and longer days, now is a great time to add a new canine family member to your home.

On top of saving 25% on adoption fees when you adopt a dog or puppy over this two-week period, our friends at Zoetis will throw in a Free Single of Simparica Trio flea, tick and worm treatment. You'll also receive a discount voucher for further purchases, so you can keep your new friend healthy and parasite-free.

Be their family! Find a friend for life this spring at www.spca.nz/betheirfamily

This 15-year-old is just the sweetest lady – and she's looking for a home to spend her golden years in 🥹 If you could offer her a space to call her own (free of other pets or young kids), you'll get the most loving, affectionate companion in return. Snuggles, headbutts, and scintillating conversation are just a few of her favourite hobbies, and you'll get an unlimited amount of all three!

Like many senior pets, she has some particular health needs, but our care team will talk you through them. If you've never considered bringing an older animal home, it can be one of the best choices you ever make – they're so, so loving, and just waiting for a warm, safe place to settle into. Get in touch with our Māngere Centre team today if Maddie could be yours, and visit our site to learn more about her 💙 https://www.spca.nz/adopt/animal/346705/cat-maddie-auckland

🐶 Meet Oliver 🍀

This handsome boy is on the hunt for his forever home 💚🐾 Our sweet Oliver has been with us since he was just 6 weeks old, after him and his brother were found roaming the streets with no mother in sight. Now he's almost 5 months old and he still hasn't had much interest 💔

Oliver is the biggest cuddle bug, and despite his size he is adamant on being a lap dog. He also loves to explore, run and climb. So if you love adventures or hiking, Oliver could be the perfect companion for you ⚾️💕

Oliver is going to grow into a large dog with lots of energy, so he will need an active family to keep him happy and healthy 🐶 He will also need someone patient while teaching him to be the best boy 🐾🍀

If you think you can provide Oliver with a loving home and family, register to adopt through the link below to meet him today!

Not even 2 weeks into September, and we have already received our first blossoms of kitten season! 🐾🐱

We had our first neonate kittens come into our centre today! How adorable are they?!🥰 Such young kittens will need to be fed around the clock as their mum would do, which is why we are always looking for foster families to help out during this time! 😽

If you are looking to get a taste of being a neonate parent, or have some time to extend a helping paw for our adorable babies, please apply to become a foster parent through our website! More information on what being a foster parent entails is listed on the website below!😇
