Just a reminder that we are holding an SGM tomorrow. It is at 6pm on the 15th of November in 206-302. We will elect the exec for 2024 as per the Student Groups requirements for UoA clubs. Please attend to vote for your new exec, to get involved, and to eat some pizza (we are catering!)

Call for Papers for Words of Reed Pens, the Student Journal of HERA (Hellenic, Egyptian, Roman Antiquities)
The 2022-2023 Volume (Volume 12) is the 140th Anniversary Edition.
Words of Reed Pens is an annual collection of student work relating to the ancient world.
Submit your work for a chance to see your work in print.
We are accepting submissions from Semester 2, 2022, and Semester 1, 2023. Submissions are welcome from stage 1 through to postgrad, in any form, including essays, assignments and creative writing.
Submissions close on Friday, the 4th of August.

Next week's seminar will be by one of our recently completed MA students - come along and hear all about her fascinating research into Egyptian calendars!
A small corridor has been discovered above the entrance passage in Khufu's pyramid. Scan Pyramids identified the corridor, which appears similar to ones found at the Meidum pyramid (built by Sneferu). The corridor is small and the stones are undressed. So, it is *likely* a relieving chamber, displacing weight from the structure and protecting the main corridors beneath. More info as we get it 😊

As we approach the beginning of the academic year, here is the draft schedule of the UoA Classics & Ancient History Tuesday seminar series for Semester 1 of 2023! Please note that the first of these is a public lecture by Emeritus Professor Denis Feeney (poster below) at 6pm in the Old Govt House lecture theatre (room 102-G26), while the others are either over Zoom or in the Federation of University Women Room (Old Govt House upstairs) at 4pm.
Interesting workshops about post-study careers.
We are delighted to share that we will be holding two zoom workshops in late January so that you can hear and learn from some fabulous women who have made the transition from a postgraduate degree on the ancient world to a successful career beyond the university-system. They will talk about their own journeys, and share their advice for the rest of us.
These one-hour workshops will be held on 27th and 28th January. You are welcome to attend either one or both, as you wish.
