Over Kings Birthday weekend Riley Wang was selected as a finalist in the prestigious Sheilah Winn National Shakespeare Festival for his original composition in the Instrumental Composition category. Students from all over New Zealand are selected for the quality of artworks and performances inspired by the works of William Shakespeare.
Riley’s original piece; entitled “Prelude”, was composed for a full orchestra and was inspired by the play “Much Ado About Nothing”. Through the musical motifs it artfully and skillfully transitioned the audience from the urgency of the wartime experiences of the soldiers to the pastoral, relaxed environment of the homestead that is the setting for this play. The quality of his work meant that he won his category, coming top in all of New Zealand.
