😴🦷🪥 Do you go to bed without brushing your teeth?

We all know that it's recommended to brush at least two times a day. But do we all do that? Don’t forget your evening brush as it's important to get rid of the day's germs and plaque and stop them from building up in your mouth as you sleep.

How can younger children access free dental care? 🤔🦷

From Birth to Preschool age:

Children who have not yet started school should be enrolled with their local Community Oral Health Service as early as possible once they have their first tooth.

Preschool or Primary School to the end of grade 8:

The school will usually help to enrol your children or parents can enrol them directly by calling...

📞 0800 TALK TEETH (0800 825 583) and be guided through the enrolment process.

The Fono Dental is happy to help parents to contact 0800 TALK TEETH (0800 825 583) to get their children enrolled as well, so please get in touch with our friendly team by calling 0800FONO4U (0800 366 648) if you would like us to do this.

Your child will either see a visiting school dentist or your Local Community Oral Health Service.

(Please note that for The Fono Dental to treat children under year 8 at school, we will need a referral from the school or community dentist.)

Press Release | Wed 31st May 2023 | The Late HRH Princess Mele Siu‘ilikutapu

“Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” - Proverbs 31:29-31

The Fono joins Pasifika peoples across New Zealand and the world in mourning the loss of HRH Princess Mele Siu‘ilikutapu Kalaniuvalu Fotofili of Tonga.

Princess Mele Siu‘ilikutapu leaves an outstanding legacy of public service. Throughout her distinguished life, she worked tirelessly for Tonga’s people, both at home and in New Zealand.

She was a passionate advocate for women and, in 1975, became the first woman to be elected as a Member of Parliament in Tonga. She advocated for women throughout her career, serving as Deputy President of the National Women’s Organisation and founding the Women's Christian Fellowship in Tonga and New Zealand.

Princess Siu‘ilikutapu was one of the keynote speakers at the New Zealand Dawn Raid Apology in 2021. She represented the voices of the Tongan and Pasifika communities and hailed the apology as a moment of great healing.

Among Princess Siu‘ilikutapu’s other achievements was her unswerving advocacy for the Tongan language and culture. She was President of the Langafonua Gallery and Handicrafts Centre, which promotes traditional Tongan skills and artistry.

The Fono’s Chairperson, Nacanieli Yalimaiwai, commented: ‘The Fono is united in sorrow with the people of Tonga at this sad time.’

‘HRH Princess Siu‘ilikutapu was an exceptional Pacific leader and champion of women. Her long record of dedicated public service sets a shining example for us all,’ said Yalimaiwai.

He added that the loss of Princess Siu‘ilikutapu will be felt deeply by Pasifika communities across New Zealand and around the globe.

Do you know what the hardest substance in the human body actually is?

It’s tooth enamel!

So what exactly is tooth enamel?

“Tooth enamel is the hard, visible, outermost covering of your teeth. Enamel is translucent, giving teeth their sparkle, and depending on its thickness, it shows through the colour of the underlying dentine which varies from light yellow to a grey or blue-like white. It’s the hardest substance in the human body and contains a high percentage of minerals.”
