WELLNESS FOR THE WORKFORCE
Redundancies and restructures - better for business? - mmmh! 🤔
Redundancies and restructures - cause more stress, burnout and sickness? 💯%
For the sake of our workforce, our families and our communities, let's teach wellness to our teams.
https://www.letmeout.co.nz/mindfulness-and-wellness-workshops.html
SLOW PRODUCTIVITY
Productivity is result of being focussed on a particular goal and taking action to accomplish it efficiently.
But there's a problem ❗
The more texts, emails, alerts, reminders, notifications, pings and calls we get, the less productive we are.
So how do we switch it all off to focus and complete a task efficiently without fear of missing something important or not being available instantly?
It's called slow productivity and training our teams how to do it will result in a better business outcome and a happier workforce.

Why Does Team Building Matter?
Are you one of those who cringes at the thought of a team building day?
Maybe your last experience was some awful, fake, cheesy challenge that made you feel uncomfortable.
Thankfully, team building has evolved and moved on from those bad old days.
Here's how: https://www.letmeout.co.nz/why-team-building-matters.html
HAVE YOU RECENTLY RESTRUCTURED YOUR BUSINESS?
Many companies have. While the purpose is likely $$ related, the outcome is not measured is dollars and cents.
The outcome is :
⬆️ Higher stress levels for those who are left behind
⬆️ More workload than ever before
⬆️ More sick days from stress related illness
⬇️ Less productivity
⬇️ Less confidence
So what will you do to fix the human impact of the changes?
How will you improve the wellbeing of your teams?

TEAM BUILDING TUESDAY
How do you treat your teammates? Food for thought... 🍎
A teacher was running a class and introduced the children to two apples (the children didn't know this, but before the class she had repeatedly dropped one of the apples on the floor, you couldn't tell, both apples looked perfect).
They talked about the apples and the children described how both apples looked the same; both were red, were of similar size and looked juicy enough to eat.
The teacher picked up the secretly damaged apple and started to tell the children how she disliked this apple, thought it was disgusting, it was a horrible colour and the stem was just too short. She told them that because she didn't like it, she didn't want them to like it either, so they should call it names too.
They passed the apple around the circle calling it names, 'you're a smelly apple', 'I don't even know why you exist', 'you've probably got worms inside you' etc.
They then passed another apple around and started to say kind words to it, 'You're a lovely apple', 'Your skin is beautiful', 'What a beautiful colour you are' etc.
She then cut the apples open. The apple they'd been kind to was clear, fresh and juicy inside.
The apple they'd said unkind words to was bruised and all mushy inside.
There was a lightbulb moment for the children immediately. What they saw inside that apple, the bruises, the mush and the broken bits is what is happening inside every one of us when someone mistreats us with their words or actions.
When people are bullied, they feel horrible inside and sometimes don't show or tell others how they are feeling. If they hadn't have cut that apple open, they would never have known how much pain they had caused it.
More and more hurt and damage happens inside if nobody does anything to stop the bullying. Let's create a generation of kind and caring, children, friends, family and team mates.
The tongue has no bones but is strong enough to break a heart.
So be careful with your words.
The ❎ Factor in your business
Our businesses are swamped with data analytics. We analyse absolutely everything!
The revenue, the costs, the profits, the sick days, the social posts, the reach, the carbon footprint, the milestones, the goals. All great stuff that ensures that the business is on track or sometimes not.
But how do you measure the ❎ Factor? The human element, without which, you don't have a business at all.
If ❎ = happy, motivated, productive, engaged, healthy, confident and valued, the data (everything you measure) will look good.
If ❎ = unhappy, demotivated, under performing, disengaged, sick, unsure and un-respected, the data will be dismal.
So put as much emphasis on your ❎ Factor as you do on the data. Anything less is not enough.
Check out our workshops where all the emphasis is on the ❎ Factor.

STRESS = SHORT MISERABLE LIFE
A saying we should hold close to our hearts.
When work life pressures and personal commitments reach the point that you are in a constant state of stress, you are shortening your life, spiralling downwards and you'll probably find it hard to remember when you last laughed out loud.
It doesn't have to be like that. There are simple strategies, tips and tricks in our workshops and wellness sessions that are easy to implement in your life starting today.
Imagine the difference you could make to your entire team, just by prioritising some of this learning.
Reach out, we are here to help.

TEAM BUILDING TUESDAY
My dad has bees. Today I went to his house and he showed me all of the honey he had gotten from the hives. He took the lid off of a 5 gallon bucket full of honey and on top of the honey there were 3 little bees, struggling. They were covered in sticky honey and drowning. I asked him if we could help them and he said he was sure they wouldn't survive. Casualties of honey collection I suppose.
I asked him again if we could at least get them out and kill them quickly, after all he was the one who taught me to put a suffering animal (or bug) out of its misery. He finally conceded and scooped the bees out of the bucket. He put them in an empty Chobani yogurt container and put the plastic container outside.
Because he had disrupted the hive with the earlier honey collection, there were bees flying all over outside.
We put the 3 little bees in the container on a bench and left them to their fate. My dad called me out a little while later to show me what was happening. These three little bees were surrounded by all of their sisters (all of the bees are females) and they were cleaning the sticky nearly dead bees, helping them to get all of the honey off of their bodies. We came back a short time later and there was only one little bee left in the container. She was still being tended to by her sisters.
When it was time for me to leave we checked one last time and all three of the bees had been cleaned off enough to fly away and the container was empty.
Those three little bees lived because they were surrounded by family and friends who would not give up on them, teammates who refused to let them drown in their own stickiness and resolved to help until the last little bee could be set free.
Bee Sisters. Bee Peers. Bee Teammates.
We could all learn a thing or two from these bees.
Bee kind always.

TEAM BUILDING TUESDAY
Teams are at the heart of everything we do here at Let Me Out, so we've endeavored to bring you 10 surprising scientific facts (one each week) all about teams to help your team be the best team you can be...
FACT 10. Virtual teams can be overrated.
Have you ever been part of a virtual team? Since COVID changed the world they've become a common theme, and you may have heard how amazing and efficient they can be. But, as someone who has experienced it firsthand, virtual teams are not always all they're cracked up to be.
Don't get me wrong, technology has definitely made it easier for teams to work together remotely. With video conferencing, instant messaging, and project management tools, it's possible to collaborate with team members from all over the world.
But sometimes virtual teams can lack the personal connection that comes from face-to-face interaction. Sure, you can see each other on a screen, but it's not the same as being in the same room and feeding off each other's energy. There's also a higher chance of miscommunication when you're not able to read someone's body language or tone of voice.
If a team is virtual, it's crucial to have periodic in-person team meetings. This allows for that personal connection to be established and maintained. It also gives team members a chance to bond and build trust, which is essential for effective teamwork.

STRESS FROM OVER STIMULUS
I have realised over the past few weeks that life has become so complicated. Working at an organisation that has 'sophisticated' systems for sharing content and connecting is causing chaos! When someone says "did you get my message"?, the first question is - how did you send it? was it an email, a chat message, a text message, a voice note? Which platform did you share it on? Email, Txt, WhatsApp, Teams?
It's stressful and over stimulating and it does my head in. Time to slow down, re-set expectations and become more productive, not more confused and irritated.
When we mute the distractions of the pings, alerts, sounds and vibrations and fully focus on the task in hand, something magical happens. Let's master slow productivity - ahhhhh!

FACT 9. Mixed-age teams outperform youth-only teams.
In today's fast-paced world, there is often a misconception that youth is the key to success. Many believe that having a team full of young, energetic individuals is the recipe for achieving greatness. However, recent research has proven otherwise. It turns out that mixed-age teams, where individuals from different age groups come together, actually outperform teams consisting solely of young members.
The truth is that practical business experience is a valuable asset in any team. The knowledge and expertise gained through years of working in a particular field cannot be overlooked. These seasoned professionals bring a level of maturity and wisdom that can greatly benefit a team.
But it's not just about experience. Mixed-age teams also have the advantage of what is known as "creative abrasion". This refers to the healthy conflict and diversity of ideas that arise when individuals from different backgrounds and perspectives come together. This clash of ideas can lead to innovative solutions and a more well-rounded approach to problem-solving.

FACT 8. Males can be insecure when in the minority.
Apparently, men are more likely to feel dissatisfied and less committed to a project when there are more women than men in the group. But here's the kicker – women seem to be immune to this ratio.
However, this does not have to be a negative experience. Being in the minority can challenge traditional gender norms and open up new perspectives. When surrounded by women who bring different experiences and ideas to the table, men are forced to step out of their comfort zone and consider alternative approaches. This can lead to a more diverse and well-rounded team dynamic. It also allows men to become better allies and advocates for gender diversity and inclusion.
