Holland House
An Auckland home for those who are Dutch, have Dutch heritage, or are interested in or connected to the Netherlands.
Established in 1948 the Auckland Dutch club has been supporting the Dutch community in Auckland for 75 years! Holland House forms the cornerstone of the Auckland Dutch Club’s activities. Particularly the monthly Dutch Market (2nd Saturday of every month - except January) and our annual Sinterklaas events. We also host the Dutch School and Adult Dutch classes. The venue is also used by various comm
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
A big thank you to all the volunteers who have been involved in our events and markets so far this year.
However, we are really struggling with volunteers for the upcoming markets, especially for the one this coming Saturday, 14th September. We urgently need more people to help out or we may need to stop offering some of the things you all enjoy so much.
Even volunteering for just one hour can make a difference. Perhaps stay for an extra hour or come an hour earlier when you are planning to attend the market anyway.
We 'pay' handsomely in oliebollen and kroketten, but most of all you are doing a good thing for all the people who come to the market for their little bit of the Netherlands once a month 🇳🇱
If you are able to help out, please send a private message to this page.
Today it's , and what better way to observe this date than to highlight this year's Dutch Youth Ambassador! 🇳🇿🇳🇱 It has been a very exciting day indeed for Jett Nieuwenhuys, the winner of the 2024 Dutch Speech Competition! Read more below.
Christian Buijsers, committee member of the Auckland Dutch Club, has been the driving force behind this annual competition for a number of years. It takes place during 'Orange Week' in April. In 2025 it will be hosted from Waiheke Island.
Today it's , and what better way to observe this date than to highlight this year's Dutch Youth Ambassador! 🇳🇿🇳🇱
Jett Nieuwenhuys is the winner of the 2024 Dutch Speech Competition, her entry themed "what I tell my friends about being Dutch in New Zealand". In her speech, she eloquently reflected on where she stands, feeling like she comes from both countries. About the experience of having two homes, and the good and bad things that brings. She also shared some of the differences she sees between her friends here in 🇳🇿 and her friends back in 🇳🇱.
When Jett was 9, she and her family went on an adventure to New Zealand, where they still are 6 years later. Living on Waiheke Island, she goes to school, plays sports and enjoys the beaches in summer. But she always looks forward to seeing her friends and family in the Netherlands over the holidays.
Our Embassy team is having Jett over in Wellington to be Ambassador for a Day in September. She will shadow the Ambassador, learning about the work of an Embassy and the NL-NZ relations. We also hope to learn from Jett's perspectives as Youth Ambassador on the work we do.
Did you know that half of the people on our planet are 30 or younger? This will likely be 57% by 2030. However globally only 2.6% of parliamentarians are under 30 years old, and less than 1% of these young MPs are women.
There's a lot of mahi to be done! 👉 https://www.un.org/en/observances/youth-day
An exciting Thursday morning awaits us!

Queen Dowager Emma of the Netherlands together with her daughter Queen Wilhelmina and granddaughter Princess Juliana, 1929
Emma of Waldeck and Pyrmont (1858-1934) was Queen consort of the Netherlands as the wife of King-Grand Duke William III. She also served as regent for her daughter, Queen Wilhelmina, during the latter's minority from 1890 until 1898. Wilhelmina (1880-1962), Emma’s only child, then took over the crown and became the first Queen Regnant of thr Netherlands. She abdicated in 1948 in favour of her only child, Juliana. Queen Juliana (1909-2004) reigned until 1980 when her eldest daughter Beatrix took over and sat on the throne until 2013. Between 1890-2013, the Netherlands was only ruled by women. See less
