The opening of our sister shop in Yokohama Everybody's Table was an amazing success, It would have never happened without our head chef’s continuous help and support. What a great chef with a big heart.
I am coming home to tell all the stories to my family and friends in Aotearoa, my home.

Thank you for your continuous support and love for Ramen Takara❤️

I have an exciting announcement to share this new year.

On the 3rd of March 2024, we will be opening a new restaurant called .jp in Yokohama, Japan. This sister restaurant will be near the Yokohama Chinatown where my father started his culinary career over 50 years ago.

There are two reasons behind the decision to open this new restaurant. The first is my experience catering for the dietary needs of customers in New Zealand and contributing to the development of a menu that accommodates gluten-free and vegan options. As the need for “food diversity” is discussed more often in Japan, I want to utilise and share the experience I’ve cultivated in New Zealand.

The second reason was listening to deepening relationships with staff who have experienced and overcome the pandemic together far away from their immediate family members in Japan. I believe in creating and maintaining a healthy, motivating and sustainable work environment by giving them an opportunity to live and work closer to their families.

No separation, no borders, gather around the table through food without borders. Cherish what your loved ones value. With this in mind, we decided on the name Everybody’s Table.

Currently, my loved ones (past staff, classmates from my school days, relatives, old friends, etc.) are working hard in Yokohama to prepare for the opening on March 3rd.

Being able to open a shop in Yokohama, the birthplace of Ramen Takara’s roots - Hochinro is such a joy. I am truly moved and filled with gratitude to everyone. I look forward to your continued support of Ramen Takara and Everybody’s Table.

Dear valued customers,

We have always taken pride in using the highest quality ingredients. While this is costly, we never want to compromise on our high standards.

Due to recent inflation of costs across all suppliers (in some cases of up to 20% in the last 12 months), as well as the impact the inflation is having on each member of our staff, we have no option but to adjust our pricing for the first time since 2020.

From this week, you may notice that price of some of the items have increased by 50 cents to 2 dollars. This small change will help us keep on sourcing the highest quality ingredients from our trusted local suppliers as well as ensuring fair wages to all our employees.

We thank you for your continuous support. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to send us a private message.

Photos from Ramen Takara Ponsonby's post 03/03/2022

15 years ago, today on March 3rd 2007, a small ramen shop with only 12 seats opened its doors in Browns Bay, and 45 years ago in 1978, my father opened a restaurant called Hochinro in a small town called Fujinomiya by Mount Fuji.

Looking at how much we have grown in the last 15 years and how we were able to continue the legacy and pride of my father here in New Zealand, I am very much filled with gratitude. I am very happy to know that our staff have embraced the spirit of Omotenashi (hospitality) keeping in tune with my father's motto "cooking with whole heart". Thank you for being such a great team.

Thank you to each and every one of you for being a part of this journey and for your love and support over the years.

What is happening now around the world do make our tummies flutter sometimes but we will try our best to keep filling them with warm, healthy meals.

Thank you and wishing peace here in Aotearoa and beyond.

Have you seen our ramen frog tee featuring GWIL? You can now order one online at https://ramentakara.bigcartel.com/

100% of profits from the sales of these tees are donated to NZ Spinal Trust, a grassroots organisation that supports people like Sophia as they come to terms with a spinal cord impairment.

Sophia was in her teens when she had a riding accident and sustained a spinal cord injury that left her a C5 tetraplegic – unable to walk and with no sensation from the collar bone down.
Despite this, or maybe because of this, Sophia has gone on to embrace some amazing opportunities – modelling, acting, public advocacy. “I don’t mind getting out of my comfort zone to help others”.

Sophia says “it’s really important to get involved in the community that understands you because they’ll help you make that progression into living life with a spinal cord injury. If you try to do it by yourself everything’s going to be harder – you don’t know what you don’t know.”

Life in a wheelchair might be different, but it’s not necessarily bad – sometimes the new opportunities are ones never imagined, like Sophia’s turn on the catwalk at NZ Fashion Wee

17/08/2021

We are closed during Level 4. Kia kaha everyone and hope to see you again soon.

We're super excited to team up with GWIL for our second 'Shirts for Charity' Ts 😻

100% of the profits from the sale of these Ts will be donated to NZ Spinal Trust!

Approximately 220 people sustain a life changing Spinal Cord Impairment either through injury or illness every year in NZ. Some are lucky enough to walk out of hospital, but ALL are affected for the rest of their lives.

NZ Spinal Trust is a small charity that supports everyone affected by SCI through peer and whānau support, back to work support and resource centre.

Thanks for all of your support with our effort to support a great cause!

They are available now from our stores for $30ea.

We don't usually talk politics but as you may have seen in the headlines, there's currently a significant shortage of skilled workers in the hospitality industry.

We are no exception - we have been operating at below our optimal staffing levels affecting all of our team. We are very grateful for our dedicated team, especially those who have been unable to take extended leave for some time.

To give everyone a chance to relax and rejuvenate, Ramen Takara will be closed for a week from Monday the 26th of July. We will open again on Tuesday the 3rd of August.

To find out more about the Restaurant Association’s petition to address the critical skill shortage please visit http://hosporeset.nz.

Thank you for your continuous support from Yuki + Ramen Takara team.

40 YEARS OF HISTORY IN A BOWL

Ramen Takara has its roots in a small restaurant at the foot of Mount Fuji. This is where our executive chef and owner Yuki grew up, watching her father's back in a busy ramen shop beloved by locals.

Hōchinrō opened its doors in 1978, once Nobuyuki Yamaguchi had accumulated over 15 years of experience training at a respected restaurant. With blessing from his master chef, Hōchinrō’s humble beginnings grew to be a great success, leaving a lasting legacy in the region and inspiring Yuki to follow in his footsteps.

Ramen Takara, launched in 2007, carries on the traditions of Hōchinrō while incorporating local flavours and Kiwi hospitality.
