Did you know the 3 main causes of dandruff? Like any type of skin, the scalp is constantly renewing itself by shedding dead cells and growing new ones. Every 14 days, the new cells coming from the
scalp’s deepest layers arrive at the surface, pushing the old cells outward. Normally, these cells detach easily during shampooing, so they’re not visible in
the hair.
Stress, fatigue, hormonal changes, and external aggressors can cause the micro-organism Malassezia restricta to proliferate at the expense of other,
beneficial micro-organisms. The scalp becomes unbalanced. Its barrier function becomes damaged, unable to protect against external aggressors, causing
dehydration and oxidation of the sebum, leading to inflammation and discomfort.
The scalp feels threatened and speeds the pace of cell renewal to evacuate the aggressors. New cells arrive twice as fast. Not having the time to properly
maturate, they reach the upper layer of the scalp before they have had the chance to detach from their neighbors. Dead cells accumulate at the surface and
stick together, forming visible build-up: Flakes and dandruff!
