Our thoughts go out to all those impacted by the Port Hills fires, and we commend the firefighters who are courageously battling the blaze.

Please, if you live in the area, take precautions for your health by closing windows and doors if you are inside, wearing a N95 (or KN95) if you are outside, and always carry your medication with you in case of a flare-up. These steps offer the best protection against the harmful effects of smoke inhalation.

Inhaling smoke from fires can severely exacerbate conditions like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and trigger flare-ups, which can be serious and lead to hospitalisation.
