We're thrilled to announce a new partnership with - a collaborative project between The Nippon Foundation and GEBCO (The General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans) to inspire the complete mapping of the world's ocean floor by 2030, and to make this information freely available.

Spirit of New Zealand ship will now be contributing data toward the project with a small data logger on board, we'll be helping to fill in gaps in the General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans global map.

More than that, we'll be raising awareness about the significance of ocean mapping, by engaging young people in these activities so we can foster a sense of environmental responsibility and curiosity about the natural world, inspiring future mariners.

Commenting on the partnership, CEO of Spirit of Adventure Trust Bruce Pilbrow said: “Our mission has always been to offer young New Zealanders the opportunity to develop leadership, independence, and community spirit through the medium of the sea. This partnership with Seabed 2030 aligns well with our mission, as it brings a new dimension to our programmes by integrating education about the critical importance of understanding the ocean floor.

Today we celebrate World Youth Day 👯🏻

Did you know..? Half of the people on our planet are 30 or younger, which is expected to reach 57% by the end of 2030. A survey shows that 67% of people believe in a better future, with 15 to 17-year-olds being the most optimistic about this 💚

We love being a part of our rangatahi development and learning during (what we think) are some very pivotal years. Bringing 39 young people together every 10 days taking away their devices and seeing them connect, learn & doing the Mahi to sail a tall ship is always amazing to to watch.

Today is World Youth Skills Day! 💪❤️✨

We are continuously committed to equipping New Zealand youth with the skills and tools they need to thrive and create change for a more prosperous, peaceful, and sustainable future.

Youth are not only facing a challenging present but also an uncertain future. By one estimate, 85 per cent of the jobs that today’s learners will be doing in 2030 have not yet been invented, putting immense pressure on all of our youth.

Did you know that on the ship young people learn leadership skills, teamwork, courage, resilience and make lifelong friends. So everyone can head into their next stage of life with the best tools available 🫶🏻

Recently, Lauren from our Shore Crew visited Hyundai NZ to chat with upcoming Hyundai New Zealand Pinnacle Programme students who are about to jump on The Spirit on our 10-day development voyages.

The Pinnacle Programme was created to identify young Kiwis with potential, to develop their skills and nurture them to be this country's next generation of leaders. We couldn't be more grateful to be partnered with such an important program thanks to Hyundai NZ.
