Cook Islands Announces $50 Million Commitment
Honoured to share an evening in the company of the Rt. Hon Ann-Marie Trevelyan, Minister for the Indo-Pacific from the UK. It was a privilege to be among the select few to engage in insightful talanoa on the eve of her journey to the Pacific Islands Forum Dialogue Partners meeting in the Cook Islands.
Our conversations spanned the breadth of Aotearoa and the Pacific region, delving into critical issues. I had the opportunity to share the impactful work that Pacific Cooperation Foundation is leading, particularly the "Perceptions of New Zealanders" report on the Pacific. This report provides invaluable insights to New Zealanders, and we are seeing an increasing interest globally as it forms a foundation for more profound intellectual engagement.
In amplifying the voices of emerging leaders from all sectors, we discussed bridging the gap for those who face barriers in sharing their stories. Our focus is on addressing crucial topics such as youth empowerment, women and children, gender and LGBTIQ rights, access, equity, security, and the pressing existential threat of climate change.
Our conversation extended to preserving language, culture, traditions, and power dynamics. Seeing our global leaders committed to understanding and collaborating on these multifaceted challenges is reassuring.
Together, we aim to create a platform that not only identifies but amplifies the voices of those who are often unheard. This is a collective effort towards building a more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable future for the Pacific and beyond.
Grateful for the opportunity to contribute and collaborate on these vital discussions.
