About Ranfurly House

Ranfurly House has a unique and rich heritage, originally known as the Auckland Veterans’ Home it was opened on the 10th of December 1903 by Lord Ranfurly, New Zealand 13th Governor General. Like many historic buildings, time took its toll on what's now known as Ranfurly Veterans Centre. In the early 2000's, The Ranfurly Trust recognised the need to change and adapt to meet the current time and care requirements and underwent a full review. The dilemma the Trust faced was the need for urgent and substantial renovations, without any major funding base in what was considered difficult economic times.

After reviewing a number of proposals, the Trust settled on a partnership with Christchurch based Generus Living Group, to develop the site. Refurbishment of Ranfurly House commenced in 2016. The refurbishment of Ranfurly House has provided public rooms for the retirement village on the ground floor and offices on the upper floor from which the Ranfurly Veterans’ Trust and other veteran welfare organisations operate to provide services to the veteran community.
