What a day !!! We cadre out votes for the first time and we felt so alive it didn’t matter that we stood in lines for hours but we did it cos from this day onwards we would be free !!!
So whilst my beloved country may be riddled with poverty and crime and large scale social injustice .. we have faith that balance will be restored we have faith in the African dream .
We fully resonate with this as we now enter year 5 of our fast ….. we are teaching , learning , unlearning and creating new ways of being but we are also doing yoga , reading , sleeping and taking care of self …

Posted • / Today marks the 11th anniversary of the deadliest garment factory disaster of our time, - and while we hold space to honor the lives lost, know that progress has been fought for and made.
Remake was founded to hold the industry accountable, to push for safety and transparency, and to train the next general of activists to protect human rights and climate justice in the clothing industry.
We have the power to demand better labor and environmental protections, and we do that work every day.
We lost 1,134 young lives working furiously to sew clothing that was going to end up in landfills anyway.
We can and will do better. We continue to fight for the world’s most vulnerable people.
We look forward to more brands signing on to the International Accord, stay updated at remake.world

🪡We are artisans. Through this manifesto, we challenge designers and brands to listen to our voices, prioritise our needs, and safeguard our rights. We call on policymakers to capitalise on good practice to advance progressive legislation. And we ask people everywhere to acknowledge our vital role in society and seek out handcrafted goods.
🧶We are artisans. And we have come together to create a manifesto for change, calling for dignity of the hand. Because the future is artisanal.
💫We who put our names to this manifesto are but a few of the millions of artisans around the world, but we represent the voice of hundreds within our communities. And we hope artisans from Alaska to Zimbabwe will join us, standing in solidarity with this manifesto for change.

Last September, FAN’s Sandra Niessen started off the De-fashioning Education: A Critical Thinking and Making and Conference by in Berlin with her provocation “De-Fashion: From Fossil Fuel Fashion to a fashion Pluriverse”
We don’t want to confine “defashion” within a fixed framework dictated solely by FAN’s perspective, but rather embrace an ever-evolving understanding of “defashion”, an expansive concept enriched by diverse interpretations and insights. 🧡

"How we think about fashion’s impact should, therefore, extend, a growing chorus of voices is arguing, far beyond the measurable impact of the clothing people wear — its environmental footprint — to include its “brainprint”, or the influence that fashion has on public opinion or consumer mindsets as well as behaviour. That has implications for everything, from how fashion communicates about sustainability to how prominently it exhibits its theoretical commitments in the public sphere.
Also telling: how few brands have responded to a call by The OR Is Present to publish their production volumes. 'In order for us to make progress, we have to know what we are up against,' Remake founder Ayesha Barenblat told Vogue Business about why production volume information is so important. 'Let’s start with the simple disclosure: how much do you produce?'"
