LUMI’s last email sent out last night:

Can you believe LUMI turned 4 this month? We’ve done some big stuff in a few small years. Nothing bigger than setting up our very own commercial kitchen and helping thousands of clients with their diet, health (physically and mentally), busy lifestyles - you name it!

I am sure I'm talking on behalf of many small businesses right now, but the global goings-on of the 2020s (inflation etc) have hit LUMI hard, and the cost of the outgoings, supplies and consumables we need to run LUMI has increased by 4x over the past year. This means it's no longer commercially do-able for us to offer our service to you.

No matter how hard we have tried to keep our heads above the water and manage to survive, it got to a point where we had nothing left to give (mentally and financially).

I've come to the bittersweet conclusion that the time has come to say goodbye to LUMI. And it feels so bitter because of the lives we’ve transformed (including our own) with our service!

I'm typing up this email with tears running down my face - I honestly want to hug and personally thank every single person who has supported our venture into this. It hasn’t always been the easiest path to walk, and the testimonials, stories and support has meant the world to us, and to me personally, at every step.

I am not sure what my next "adventure" will be, but I do hope this is not the last time you hear from me!

Mine and my partner transformation photos usually get a lot of attention. People want to know one thing: “HOW?”

The answer to HOW is actually pretty straight forward!
We stopped putting our bodies through enormous amount of stress. The stress was caused by under eating (calorie counting), over training (every single day, even several times per day), only focusing on the results, poor sleeping habits, pre workouts to get the energy to train hard after a bad nights sleep, NEGATIVE SELF TALK especially when the results are not seen/achieved, then back to the very beginning- training more, eating less and so on!
High cortisol levels, inflammation, anxiety, slow recovery were all part of our every day life.

Slowing down, resting more, training for the enjoyment/ love rather than punishment.

Running a business is really hard.

What they don’t tell you is that it can cause severe stress and anxiety, and drains you mentally to the point of depression in even the most laid back people.

People will talk about you, compare you to others, use you, they will view you as a service and not a person anymore.

Friends and family will expect discounts and people will value you and your hard work less than a big chain store.

You have to worry about if you forget to email/message someone back, are they going to think it was on purpose? Did you disappoint them? Will they hold that against you? When in reality you just can’t get to everyone’s messages and emails.

Starting up and running a successful business puts incredible strain on personal lives and relationships, many of which fail because there is just often no work life balance. You need to be the director, the worker, the admin, the marketing team, the accountant, the cleaner..... All whilst being a parent, a husband or a wife, family support, friend... it’s one of the hardest things you will try and balance

There’s a reason you don’t see many people succeed in small businesses after 5 years. If they are successful they are overwhelmed. It takes a toll. It’s freaking exhausting. Especially the past couple of years when so much has been out of our control.

Here’s a small reminder that we are just normal people with hectic lives. Be kind, be patient, support small businesses…….and hopefully more of us will stick around!

How it all started:

As a busy mum of 3, LUMI Founder Nargis Hovik was struggling. Depression, BII and other aspects of life had taken over and she went from
once a healthy, happy professional chef, personal trainer, wife and mother to no longer recognizing the woman in the mirror.

She decided to join her local gym to try and reclaim some of her old self, she’d also started back at a full time job, as well as being a mum to three young children and really struggled to keep on top of cooking healthy and nutritious meals for herself and her family every day, so that she could pursue her personal health goals.
She quickly realised she was not the only one finding it hard to fit it all in into a busy modern, lifestyle, and suggested to do the meal prep at the local gym utilising healthy recipes – but with a tasty twist!

Within a couple of weeks she had people from several other gyms placing orders via Facebook and she ended up making and delivering over 500 meals per week out of her home kitchen (while still working full time!). A couple of months later the demand was so high that she was no longer able to do it alone out of her home kitchen and LUMI was born!
