Big changes are happening here at The French Café, marking a new chapter for our beloved three hatted restaurant. Sid at the French Café is still situated at the same address but has relocated to the other side of the internal courtyard and has reverted to its original name, The French Café.
This move has paved the way for the arrival of our new modern Asian restaurant, Anise Auckland which opens for dinner on Friday February 2. Anise's website is now live and taking bookings. So check out the menu.
With more than four decades on the Auckland dining scene, our ongoing commitment to The French Café remains. Chef Sid Sahrawat’s first passion has always been fine dining; the experience will be more intimate than ever before with chefs plating right in front of our guests.
The French Café is fully booked for February but taking bookings from March 1 and will be open Thursday to Saturday for dinner with a 5 course tasting menu and for lunch on Saturdays. You can check out the new website and sample menu. Link in bio.

We have some news that we are excited to share with you.
Come 1 Feb 2024, we will be reverting back to our original name, The French Café, and will move our premium dining offering from the building’s main dining rooms to the 35-seat private dining room currently known as The French Kitchen.
The main dining area will then house a new restaurant, Anise, a modern Asian eatery also launching 1 Feb, with a menu curated chef Sid’s way, with an artful style inspired by Sid’s travels overseas and experiences at restaurants such as Momofuku in New York and Supernormal in Melbourne.
The multiple menu options currently available at Sid at the French Café will all remain. The smaller dining room will enable diners an intimate view of the chefs plating the dishes on the open plan kitchen pass and create a more bespoke and exclusive experience.
Don’t worry The Gaggenau Tuesday Test Kitchens, Chef Eats and our weekly Saturday Champagne lunches will all be back in 2024.
The introduction of Anise will add versatility to what will become a mini dining precinct, housing two restaurants in the one area, all wrapped around our gorgeous courtyard reminiscent of an old French quarter, complete with a fireplace, herb garden and al fresco dining in the summer.
The French Café will be open Thursday to Saturday for dinner and Saturdays for lunch.
All existing valid vouchers will be honoured at either The French Café or Anise - your choice!
Bookings for The French Café remain open, and Anise expects to take bookings from early January for 1 February onwards.
For now, it’s business as usual until Saturday 27 January at Sid at The French Café. So, if you have a booking until then with us there will be no change to your reservation and we look forward to welcoming you.
If your reservation is after the 27 January our team will be in touch to reallocate your booking to either venue of your preference.

Head chef Tommy has been looking after our kitchen for over a year. He is one for precision, making those prep lists and checking them twice. Tommy watches over all aspects of the kitchen and doesn’t let anything hit the pass unless he’s checked it first. Only the best for our customers.

Kids in Kitchen is back!
