We will keep you informed of any developments following our meeting with AT. In the meantime, please continue to share your feedback by emailing us on [email protected].

The rain from yesterday paused and the fog from the morning lifted as Michelle Sigley from Wiri Business headed out to Harbour Ridge Drive.

Te Pu-A-Nga Maara have a space there which they base their sustainable activities from. As always, it's great to see and hear about the progress that they are making at the awa and maunga.

Today volunteers from L'Oréal Paris helped plant 670 native plants on the bank of the Puhinui stream. Thanks again to Sustainable Business Network for inviting us along.

Earlier this year, Beautification Trust ran an EcoFest 2024 Mural Competition.

The prize?

$1700 and a chance to transform some Chorus infrastructure in Wiri into a vibrant piece of art.

We asked for designs that reflected environmental sustainability and made people look twice. Brigita Botma's design was chosen and can be found on Roscommon/Wiri Station Road.

"When I thought of Wiri, the first thing that sprung to mind is that it is well known for it's volcanic mountain: Matukutūruru Maunga. I wanted to incorporate this natural wonder into the design with an emphasis on anti-littering and pollution as it is a fairly built-up area" says Brigita.

"The contrast of litter with the maunga and native fauna that frequent the area paints a clear picture of why littering is unacceptable. The nz skink crawls across garbage and a tūi flies overhead with plastic in its beak. The Kererū imposes the foreground with a wrapper in it's beak. The wrapper reads:
'Which would you prefer it to be?
Fields of garbage or me?
Please respect Wiri, keep us litter free."

What do you think of this new piece of art? Let us know in the comments below.

Love that it's July and seeing the amazing wahine from Te Pu-A-Nga Maara and the Awa rangers on our Wiri Business calendar!

They are doing an amazing job regenerating the Puhinui Stream, operating from their base in the Wiri. We're looking forward to helping at clean up sometime soon.

And we hope pur business comminity has gotten use out of their 2024 calendar (as much as 5 year old Nathan has!) - let us know if you like it below!

We love a good makeover!

The Chorus cabinet on Plunket Ave has certainly gone from drab to fab thanks to the dab hand of Lucia Laubscher. Check out the photos to see the final product.

Our sponsorship of cabinet art has helped beautify the Wiri Business district and helps deter tagging.

Thanks again to the Beautification Trust for facilitating this artwork for us.

Happy Matariki to all!

We hope Wiri businesses and their staff have a well-deserved rest with friends and whanau.

Photos from Wiri Business Association's post 26/06/2024

Scarfs, beanies, puffy jackets and gumboots were the king this morning at the Matariki celebration at the base of Matukutuureia on Wilco Place, Wiri.

It was a great way to welcome the new year and acknowledge those that have passed. And as always, it's great to see people coming together and connecting with the maunga, awa and whenua.

Thank you to Te Pu-A-Nga Maara for the invite and the continued work you do to restoring te Puhinui.

For those that are interested, I have attached the Matariki karakia that were recited - Rauemi by Mānawatia a Matariki.

Today Diana Viljoen and Michelle Sigley headed to the The Cause Collective to help out at their employment 'speed dating' event.

This event comes after 8 weeks of training to get work ready and allows youth to practice their interview skills and meet with potential employers.

Well done to the students for stepping up and doing 8 mini interviews - it's not easy!

The opportunist criminal typically chooses a property where they think their activity will go unnoticed.

Well maintained, attractive and secure properties demonstrate to a potential criminal that the property is well looked after and not an easy target.

Did you know that we have nightly security patrols and a network of CCTV cameras in Wiri business district?

But there’s things businesses can do to reduce the likelihood of criminal activity – check out the link below from the NZ Police to get suggestions for your business.
