Marist Vocations
This group aims to promote vocations to the Society of Mary.
The Society of Mary (Marists) is a religious congregation in the Catholic Church of Priests and Brothers who seek to model their lives on Mary, the mother of Jesus.
AUGUST 2: FEAST DAY OF ST PETER JULIAN EYMARD, FOUNDER OF THE SOCIETY OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
“bring all the world to the knowledge and love of our Lord; to preach nothing but Jesus Christ, and Jesus Christ Eucharistic.”
St. Peter Julian Eymard is best known among the Society of Mary as the director of the Third Order of Mary and for his service as the provincial of the Society of Mary in Lyons, France. He served first as a diocesan priest, then as a Marist priest, and then as the founder of two congregations devoted to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. He founded the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament for priests and the Servants of the Blessed Sacrament for nuns. He died on August 1, 1868 and was canonized on December 9, 1962. His feast day is August 2nd.

Happy Feast Day!
JUNE 6TH (FEAST DAY OF ST MARCELLIN CHAMPAGNAT)
Today we celebrate a significant Marist Saint "St. Marcellin Champagnat" Founder of the Marist Brothers.
.. Deeply aware of the cultural and spiritual poverty of the children of the countryside, Marcellin felt a strong urge to include a branch of brothers for the Christian education of young people. "I cannot see a child without wanting to tell him how much Jesus loves him." (https://www.vatican.va/news_services/liturgy/saints/ns_lit_doc_19990418_champagnat_en.html)

"I want to urge Marist not think so much about themselves. Let us not always be coming back upon ourselves, let us not look at ourselves so much.... Rather, let us look to God, who is uncreated beauty. Let us walk in his presence. By always looking at him we shall become like him, we shall become perfect."

Blazing the Trail - Letters from the North Solomons
Fr Emmet McHardy SM
Emmet McHardy had volunteered for the missions in Oceania while doing his studies for the priesthood. Immediately after his ordination in 1928, he was appointed to Bougainville (North Solomons) which was sill in its early years as a mission.
His ministry lasted only 3 years. He contracted tubercular meningitis and died in 1933 at the age of 29.
In those three years on the mission Emmet McHardy wrote numerous letters to his family and friends. He records that when the boat passed by his mission station he had packets of 40, 50, or sometimes 60 letters to post. These letters were simple accounts of his day-to-day life on the mission, and they reflect the cheerfulness and generosity that he brought to his mission work. The letters were never written with the intention of being published; but after his death, some of them were published in a book entitled 'Blazing the Trail.'
The witness of Emmet McHardy’s life and work continued to have a profound effect many years after the publication of the book, both in his home country of New Zealand and beyond. There are priests and religious still alive who acknowledge the letters as a major influence on their
vocation.

BE A MISSIONARY OF PRAYER AND OF ACTION!
BE A MISSIONARY OF PRAYER AND OF ACTION
Speak to our vocations directors now!
"Let us awake, Messieurs, let faith put life into us. The Society of Mary is a pre-eminently active body; it will achieve nothing unless we unite in ourselves the man of prayer and the man of action: the man of prayer who is completely permeated with the glory of God and the salvation of souls, and the man of action, bent on securing this noble aim." - Venerable Jean-Claude Colin

Our story
Of the 12 young men who made the pledge it was perhaps John Claude Colin, who was most affected. Fourvière became for him a foundational-moment.
Fr Pat Bearsley (+2000), for a conference to the Boston Province retreat of 1994, wrote:
As we know, making the Society of Mary exist was the resolution he took and the rest of his life was devoted to realizing that idea. This project was now to unify the rest of his life. It gave him purpose and direction. It gave him great courage and as we know, he dedicated all his energy to the founding and direction of the Society of Mary.
What gave Fr. Colin the power to carry this decision through was not simply the fact that it corresponded to his personal wishes… It flowed from his belief that in trying to carry this project through and making it a reality, he was responding to Mary’s desire. That’s what gave him the energy…
