No one wants to be house bound while they’re on holiday right?!
And you don’t have to be ☀️🌊
Yes, ideally you still need to stick to your little one’s nap and bed times as much as you can, but if it works for your little one you can do this on the go using the tips above ☝️
And, if you stick to routine MOST of the time, the odd late bed time or short nap shouldn’t hurt too much.

This is such a common one!
Iron is responsible for red blood cell production and low red blood count is associated with short and disturbed sleep.
We also need iron to regulate our body temperature and our body temperature needs to drop to be able to fall asleep.
Beef, chicken, eggs, leafy greens, lentils, quinoa, broccoli, and sweet potato are a few fab options for iron 🍗🥚🥬🍳🥦
It’s also worth noting that vitamin c supports iron absorption and too much dairy can inhibit it.
So, if you have a toddler who loves their milk, is drinking more than 500ml of cows milk per day, and is having trouble sleeping, this could be contributing.
Also, if you’re breastfeeding your little one and you struggle with low iron, they may be too!
If you’re worried about iron levels, make sure you book in a visit to your GP and try and include more of the foods above, alongside fresh fruit and veg for vitamin c ❤️

Does your little one struggle to sleep when the weather is super hot ☀️🌡
It can be tricky!
Especially if you have bedrooms upstairs with no aircon, or you are away on holiday.
Below are a few different suggestions if you’re not lucky enough to have aircon where your little one is sleeping.
☀️If you’re in a house, keep the bedroom blinds or curtains shut during the day. You can even get portable blackout blinds from Sleepytot New Zealand that have a silver backing to reflect the heat.
☀️Use a fan on a timer so you can set it to turn off when it cools at night.
☀️If it’s really hot, freeze a big bottle of water and pop it infront of the fan. Just make sure it isn’t blowing directly on your little one.
☀️Have naps in the pram in some shade.
☀️Have naps on the go in the car with the aircon on.

There is a chance they could be lacking in magnesium!
Magnesium is best absorbed through the skin so epsom salt baths are amazing. You can also get magnesium spray that you can rub into the soles of your little one’s feet too.
You can also make your own magnesium oil!

Who’s got their tree up and who is having to constantly shield it from their toddler?

This is a super simple one that can really help!
Protein will help keep your little one fuller for longer. As well as stabilising blood sugar levels and preventing hypoglycemia, which will make the body produce adrenalin and is not great for sleep 🛌
You can introduce protein for lunch when your little one is established on solids and for dinner once they are 10 months old.
It’s also worth noting that while pouches are fab and such an easy option, they often contain very small amounts of protein (even the meat based ones) and it isn’t enough.

Now don’t get me wrong, I am 100% here for encouraging babies and toddlers independence.
BUT if you’re letting them entirely feed themselves and pick what they are going to eat then there is a high chance they aren’t going to be getting enough of the nutrients they need for good quality sleep.
Babies need a decent amount of protein, low GI carbs, iron and zinc rich foods, and more to set them up for good naps and night sleep.
So, by all means offer your little one finger food that they can pick and choose from, but give it to them after some puree that you have spoon fed them so you can be sure they are getting what they need ❤
