Enriching Local Curriculum (ELC) — formerly known as Learning Experiences Outside the Classroom (LEOTC) — supports community organisations to draw on local resources and expertise, to provide our tamariki with authentic, hands-on/minds-on learning experiences that complement the New Zealand Curriculum, Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, and Te Whāriki. Providers and school. We work in partnership to run educational programmes for ākonga.
Enriching Local Curriculum is the new-and-improved version of Learning Experiences Outside the Classroom. They have changed LEOTC to support the changing Education system. Unlike LEOTC, ELC programmes are not divided into subject areas. Rather, they are experiences that support broad curriculum outcomes.
Bill from NZ Sup Safety recently ran a refresher course on our SUP rescue skills for some of the Horizons Staff and gave us the needed tips and tricks on our own SUPing skills.
Thanks again Bill!
Remember to always wear your PFD/Life Jacket when out on your SUP or the Harbour Master might enjoy giving you a $200 fine!

The Graeme Di**le Foundation Canterbury He Ara Ākonga Group 1 Hapu headed out on their 5-day wilderness adventure. Their arrival to the Craigieburn's started in snow which made for a cold walk. During their first day the rangatahi were fortunate enough to undertake a Guided Walk of Kura Tawhiti by Nigel Harris which allowed them a deeper understanding of the history, kaitiakitanga and whenua of both Kura Tawhiti and Arthurs Pass and the involvement of both Māori and Europeans.
Thank you Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga for giving the rangatahi an opportunity to connect with Waipounamu/South Island.
