The postpartum period, or fourth trimester, can bring about a mix of excitement and joy, alongside the need to navigate the physiological, emotional, and structural changes that the body undergoes. Massage therapy can be beneficial in the early days or weeks* following delivery, aiding in postpartum recovery. It's common for new stresses to arise from activities such as carrying, feeding, lifting, and coping with sleep deprivation!
Baby is welcome to accompany you during your massage, whether in a bassinet or comfortably lying on you.
*This recommendation applies to natural births without complications. Please do not hesitate to reach out for a discussion regarding your specific circumstances.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week. Community is… what we create… together.
Often we can find it tough and feel isolated. The past few years have been particularly difficult with covid, natural disasters and now high living costs. Coming together and connecting to others are powerful ways to protect our mental health and wellbeing. Reach out to someone who you know might need a listening ear.

Pregnancy is such a time of change - physically, mentally and emotionally.
Pregnancy massage can be a wonderful support during this time, in a warm, nurturing, safe environment so that the mum to be can relax and recharge.
Common discomforts can be eased, such as hip, pelvis, back and rib pain, neck and shoulder tension, and reduction of stress and anxiety.

The weather has been a bit up and down lately, but I do quite like this time of year.
The promise of summer to come and the lovely spring blooms 💐
And what better way to enjoy a cold, wet spring day than cosy and warm in the massage studio!

This is a great article about positioning for breastfeeding - to help with baby’s latch, but can also help you.
I see so much upper back, shoulder and neck tension in new mums, getting yourself into a comfortable position can really help.
Because how much time do you spend feeding your baby???
I'm not a fan of breastfeeding pillows generally, though they do have their place in some situations :-)
Here's an article that explains why:

Warning- sensitive subject below.
Inspired by a beautiful client who came to me after suffering loss, I came across a charity called Massage After Miscarriage Aotearoa to support.
MAMA coordinate donations of care packages and services such as massage for those mama’s that have lost their baby. Providing a simple gesture of comfort, care, and compassion to women experiencing grief, sadness, and loss following a miscarriage or stillbirth.
Midwives can refer their patients to MAMA.
Please feel free to tag your midwife to let them know or a business who may be interested in donating.
