DaisyLou Designs by Lyn Hurring
DaisyLou Designs - illustration, art and general creativeness! I love to illustrate, draw & make stuff, and I happily share my creations with you.
this page is all about my drawings and other creations, as well as art from others that I love. I specialise in watercolour pencil illustrations, as well as digital illustrations. If you have a project in mind that require an illustrator, then please let me know!
There’s even been time for a little bit of carving….
And now for some relaxing holiday sketching….
Aramoana Beach Babe..,
What a beauty 🦭❤️. We have some fantastic wildlife in these parts. Just a little drawing I’ve managed to finish while getting over Covid. Day 5 and I finally feel like doing something…
Tree full of Tui’s - memories from our Stewart Is/ Rakiura trip last year.
From idea to reality. Sometimes I make designs & sometimes I sew things. Very satisfying to do both in one project. Quilted baby play mat- have made 2 of these for work colleagues this year. More fun than knitting booties! (Although I do also love knitting…)
Port Chalmers Hotel.
Edition printed….! So satisfying to have a good printing session. These are hand printed on watercolour paper, using water based printing ink. I use a a hand held burnisher and a wooden rice spoon to “press” the image on to the paper.
“Lucky sleeping”
- carved, tested & printed! So satisfying when it actually works. Hand printed on sketch paper (gotta get me some nice fancy printing papers). So pleased with this one, wasn’t sure his fur would turn out the way I wanted… but it did!

The old cat is still awaiting his debut as an artwork. His sleeping cat pose should definitely be a yoga move, or maybe it already is 🤔. Linocut WIP, felt good to get some carving done today 😎
Being on holiday is giving me time to have a play with some of the art I created over the last 12 months. This is our old cat Pepper, in her favourite spot, snuggled up in bed. A few different colour versions created In Affinity Photo, and the original ink drawing. Which is your favourite?
Koi at Dunedin Botanic Gardens…drypoint etching digitally coloured in Affinity Photo. I’m discovering the joys of “photoshop” techniques in digital art but I don’t use Photoshop coz I refuse to pay the ongoing Adobe subscription for software I don’t use 24/7. Instead I use Affinity Photo, paid a one-off fee of not very much $, & have been teaching myself how to use it. I watch art tutorials where they use photoshop & then I try & replicate the techniques using Affinity Photo. So far I’ve found that anything I might’ve needed Photoshop for I can do in Affinity. Happy Days 😆. So this piece was done by scanning the etching (2nd photo) into Affinity & using tools like lasso select, levels, colour balance, burn & dodge. And all done on the iPad 😎
Cat in snail pose? Sometimes ya just wanna curl up & forget about the world for a bit. Cats know this…..
New shirt designs! Thanks , love my new L/S tees!
