Yet again, our factory has been very busy producing the next year's school shoes. Here is a peek at the part of the process of producing the Delta style, along with the Southland Girls High School red shoes, and the Kristen.
With Fathers Day almost upon us, why not support a local business, and get him a shoe care kit, or a new belt from McKinlays.
We have recently produced these his and her scuffs, being the Jake and Jackie styles. The material used for these is our Rodeo Purple nubuck that blends nicely with the upcoming spring Crocus flower. Get ready to enjoy the colours of spring.
Here's some ideas for the kids to upcycle our McKinlay shoe boxes, made in Christchurch by NZ Cartons. Upcycling, being the act of taking something no longer in use and giving it a second life and new function.
Here's an interesting advert we found from 1958 in our archives to attract staff. Am sure this wording would not be acceptable today. We continue to have a team of dedicated machinists producing our current range of footwear.
Here is a selection of our footwear options for the entire family. McKinlay's continuing our long 145 year tradition of producing quality leather footwear here in Dunedin, for New Zealanders, and beyond. www.mckinlays.co.nz
Here's a wee reminder to care for your footwear over these winter months especially, to keep them protected from the elements. ❄🥶
Today we feature a very important piece of equipment in the production of our footwear. Lasts. Shoe lasts are the foundation of every pair of shoes. They are typically made of either plastic or wood and are designed to mimic the shape and size of a human foot. A shoe last is a crucial component in the shoe manufacturing process, as it determines the shape and fit of the final product. Here a peek at some of the lasts we use.

Tip to remember, while natural leather does have some degree of water resistance, it can't survive excessive water exposure, therefore we suggest you use a protector spray. We recommend Tarrago Protector Spray which protects leather, suede, fabric and wool surfaces against the pe*******on of water. It does not affect the breathing properties of the leather.
More pops of colour produced in our factory this week. Some cute pairs of Sidewalk in Hot Pink Leather and Rodeo Purple Nubuck, made exclusively for a customer and a pair of Jackie slip ons in Hot Pink. Also here's a look at some of the process during the production of the Sidewalk shoes.
In celebration of the long weekend, for Kings Birthday, we have a sale on some broken size lines of the Victoria sneakers imported from Europe last season. Today we celebrate all the mums out there. We also have these lovely wool felted slipper on sale for $99.00.
An exceptional piece of McKinlay's memorabilia has been given to us recently. A kind gentleman had found it at a second hand store. It is a leather jerkin made in the 1940's, during WW2, at our factory, which was in Great King Street at the time. We believe these were worn by the heavy artillery Gunners to keep them warm as protective clothing when the weather was particularly cold and wet.
Today we feature our Beaumont boots. We recently produced a colourful pair at a customers request. The Beaumonts sizing start from UK6. Keep in mind that we can customise any of our standard styles with the current leathers, nubuck or suede materials we have, as shown. There is an additional cost for this of $80.00.
On this day we honor the fallen, who gave their life's for their country.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we shall remember them.
We are off on a break, we will come back ready to hunker down for the winter months to continue producing our footwear. Therefore any online orders placed during this time won't be filled until our return.
We currently have for sale at our factory outlet store, European import samples, all size EU37, Kacper brand boots $120.00 and shoes $100.00, Pitillos boots $100.00 and shoes $80.00. on (some would say come full circle) one thing has remained the same: high quality footwear, made to last, has always attracted discerning buyers. This is evidenced by our growing list of overseas customers: we regularly send our shoes to retailers in Australia, as well as directly to private customers in America, Canada, Denmark, England, France, Italy, Germany, Sweden, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Although we started from humble beginnings, we currently make between 130 and 160 pairs of shoes each day. As production has increased to meet growing demand, we’ve taken care to retain some of the traditional skills and techniques that add value to our product and set McKinlays shoes apart from the mass produced mainstream. We’ve also retained the valuable skills and experience of people who know footwear inside out: eight of our staff have been with us for over 20 years; with a further seven for over 12 years.
We believe this focus on quality, traditional techniques and philosophies, and the continuity of experienced staff, allows us not only to offer you a superior product, but a higher level of service and support. We look forward to talking with you soon.
