Last month, I bid farewell (𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘯𝘰𝘸) to Heather, the driving force behind the Coralcone Mini and Midi. Our paths converged through mutual friends who knew of my quest for innovation in the sustainable period space.💡

Since 2018, Heather leapt aboard, igniting a journey fueled by her prowess as a product design engineer. Her tireless dedication (𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘭𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘺 𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭-𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘫𝘰𝘣) propelled us through countless iterations, endless prototypes, a myriad of volunteer tests and forum discussions. ⚙️🧬🗜️🔬

Oh, and those late-night 3D prints at home? That was all Heather's magic. 👩🏼‍🔧✨

As menstruators ourselves, we plunged into the depths of nuances, dissecting every nitty-gritty aspect, aided by Heather's intimate understanding and a vast personal collection of period cups. 🗣️🩸

And even with my own residual baby-brain, she patiently educated me on manufacturing jargon and complexities.

Despite the challenges posed by the Pandemic – from supply chain disruptions, rising costs, to staffing shortages – Heather's unwavering commitment never wavered over those 3.5 years prior to launch. 🤯🚀

As she bids farewell to Ōtepoti Dunedin, returning to her hometown of Melbourne Australia to embrace motherhood, I’m filled with gratitude. 🙏🏼

Without her unwavering support from day one, our flagship product would be but a shadow of what it is today. Heather, your imprint on Coralcone is indelible.

Excited to share that I'm already 3 weeks knee-deep in the Cultivate Accelerator program 🤓📚

Bootcamp is a whirlwind, it's true! 🌬

Yvette, the founder of , recently completed Bootcamp and enjoyed every minute of what "felt like only four weeks!"

Yvette always showed up prepared and ready to share. When asked what she enjoyed the most about Bootcamp, she said, "What I loved about this incubator which differs from other incubator programs that I've been on - was that it was FMCG specific."

💌 11pm last Friday we were thrilled to reach a little over our goal of $12k and close 31 days of our debut project campaign.🥳🤍🩸

This means that we are now able to complete the final stages of manufacturing, heat and performance testing for our newly developed, long-lasting production machinery. ⚙️🗜️

This will ensure that Coralcone menstrual cups can be produced sustainably and responsibly, right here in Aotearoa, for years to come. 🇳🇿

A) It's not the wisest to start a fundraising campaign with only a 2 week lead time. 😮‍💨

B) Time + tears spent coding the platform is not for me - next time bring in help! 😫😭😤

C) Fundraising campaigns are a team sport, not for solopreneurs!

D) Not all FB groups are the friendliest 🫥 just sayin'

Today marks another trip around the sun for me, and as I reflect on this journey, I'm filled with gratitude for the highs and the challenges that come with being a first-time startup founder. 🎂

Being at the helm of Coralcone, a startup focused on sustainable menstrual products, has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. 🎢

The thrill of launching an innovative product and witnessing our vision come to life is unmatched. Yet, there are moments when worries about cash flow, family obligation and self-doubt creep in (especially during the luteal phase 🌒).

In these moments, I sometimes question if it's time to return to the comfort of corporate life where I'm clearly compensated for the hours I put in. But a brief browse through job listings serves as a powerful reminder of where my heart truly lies – in the growth and impact of Coralcone.

Unlike any professional role I've held before, leading this mission allows me to innovate sustainable solutions that improve individual lives while preserving our planet. 🌏

The urgency of our environmental challenges is undeniable. Disposable products take centuries to decompose, but a simple shift to reusable alternatives can make a world of difference. That's why I'm committed to ensuring that our products are not only effective, comfortable and easy-to-use seamlessly transitioning consumers to a more sustainable lifestyle.

As I’m woken up today by my young daughter singing "Happy Birthday" in both English and Maori right in my face, I'm reminded of the legacy I'm building through Coralcone. I'm preserving an environment that she will one day inherit, and developing products that empower her to live life to the fullest.

All my global career experience, every team I've led, and every tight budget I've managed has led me to this moment in time. Building a sustainable startup from scratch is an honour, and though it's an unknown journey, I'm learning to trust the path. 🚀
