Barre Base fuses elements of ballet conditioning exercises with pilates, yoga and functional, body-weight training.
Kia ora all!
This info will be sent out in an email next week, but I am posting this here now as I have had a few messages over the last few weeks about these two topics.
1. 2025 Annual Memberships
Yes! Our annual membership sale is back for 2025.
This is a full-year pass for $1400, offering a saving of $300 across the year. This pass is an investment – ensuring you feel confident, strong, and free to embrace all that 2025 has to offer.
Due to the large discount, we only offer a limited number of these discounted memberships. The membership provides unlimited, year-round, access to all classes – including any special classes, events or challenges we run. This membership must be paid in full. If you’re currently on a fortnightly membership payment and wish to switch, you can!
Quick maths
- If you come 5 times a week on this membership, each class is $5.60
- If you come 4 times a week, each class is $7.
- 3 times a week = $9.30 per session.
- A drop-in is $20…
So it’s a no-brainer if you’re a regular attendee!
Get in touch at [email protected] if you’d like to purchase the discounted pass. Even if you’d like to secure your place and pay later, that is fine. Please note; this pass is valid for Jan-Dec 2025 only and doesn’t include any membership pauses.
2. Christmas Closures
The Barre Base studio will close for Christmas on Saturday 21st. Those Saturday morning classes will be the final for the year.
We will be back with a reduced timetable from January 11th.
Fortnightly membership payments will be paused over this time and you won’t be charged.
As always, get in touch if you have any questions.

Today is World Menopause Day. So much needs to be done to raise awareness of menopause — to normalise the radical changes a woman faces through this time, and to highlight that 1. They’re not alone and 2. Support exists ❤️ Back in 2023, we launched an amazing educational series on Barre Base Anywhere with Integrative Doctor, Deb Brunt. Deb shares her amazing knowledge on menopause — from exercise, diet, mental health and HRT. I know this series has prompted many of our members to change how they viewed their health through this time, and it’s been incredibly empowering for many to know there is more support available.

Kia ora, everyone!
The team and I would like to share a few friendly reminders about studio etiquette:
1. While many studios have a strict ‘no talking’ rule on the mat before and after class, we’ve always encouraged conversation at Barre Base. However, once the doors close and the teacher begins, please wrap up your conversations and be prepared on your mat, ready to start. Lately, our teachers have had to prompt the class to settle at least three times before getting started, which cuts into our class time and the experience.
2. Please ensure you’re inside the studio and on your mat before class begins. Arriving at least 5 minutes early helps us avoid disruptions. It can be distracting for both the students and the team if we have to adjust props or move mats while preparing to start. The first moments of class are essential to set the tone and focus, so we appreciate your understanding and punctuality.
Upholding studio etiquette is key to ensuring everyone has a great experience. Remember, people come to Barre Base for many reasons, and for some, this may be the first chance they’ve had all day to breathe and find space for themselves. Let’s work together to ensure everyone enjoys a positive and peaceful experience.
Thank you,
Rosa

Yes, we help our members to build strong and supple bodies — but the true winner of mindful movement is all that it does for our mental and emotional health ❤️
Health is a journey of balance, where our physical, mental and emotional bodies work in unison to create a whole person. Health is hauora. We cannot nourish one aspect, without tending to the others.
So on the days that you might feel like you’re “making progress” in the gym, or you’re worried that your body doesn’t look the same as it once did, remember ALL of the benefits of exercise — peace, freedom, meditation, empowerment, community and mental clarity (the list goes on).
The only true measure of wealth is our health.
Thank you, Margie, for these words 🙏
Some of my favourite yoga movements for pregnancy ❤️ Share this with any pregnant mums you know who are in need of a good stretch!
At Barre Base, we believe fitness should be something everyone can enjoy, no matter their age or fitness level. Pilates and barre are gentle yet highly effective forms of exercise that build strength, improve flexibility, and enhance body awareness. Our classes are perfect for anyone looking to stay active, whether you’re a young professional aiming to stay fit, a parent balancing a busy lifestyle, or someone focused on maintaining mobility and strength as you age. With their low-impact nature, Pilates and barre help keep your body strong, balanced, and feeling its best. ❤️
What is Barre?
Barre is a style of Pilates that combines low-impact exercises to strengthen your legs, glutes, and core, all while improving posture. In our classes, we use a handrail (a ballet barre) to provide extra support during functional strength exercises like lunges, squats, and leg lifts. The beauty of the barre is that it allows you to focus on your technique while enhancing your balance. It’s a fun, accessible way to work out, whether you’re new to exercise or looking to deepen your practice.
We offer classes for every level, and if you’re new to barre, we recommend starting with our Beginner Barre or Gentle Barre classes. These classes are the perfect way to get familiar with the exercises and work on your technique, helping you build strength and confidence from day one.
Kia ora, all!

Do you really do those moves your Physio told you to? 😅 I mean, we should, but sometimes it’s easy to let them slip.
The exercises we do in Pilates, Barre and Yoga are often a natural extension of the work you do in physiotherapy. We take those essential, functional exercises and turn them into a full-body experience that’s fun, dynamic, and challenging! And that is why so many local Physios send their clients our way.
Together with physiotherapists and other body workers, we help clients continue their recovery, enhance body awareness, and prevent future injuries.
Let’s work together to keep you moving, strong, and feeling your best!

Our Story
Barre Base fuses elements of ballet barre (French for 'bar') conditioning exercises with pilates, yoga, and functional, body-weight training.
Barre Base was established in Dunedin in 2014. Since then, we've watched our clients grow from strength to strength. It is so rewarding to see our community become stronger, more flexible, and to gain increased body awareness and composure through our classes.
Alongside our shared passion for health and fitness, our teachers strongly advocate for the use of organic, local, healthy and nourishing food to better fuel the body.
