This is the first time we have been to the show as Kaiwhakangau and we are excited to hang out with Gissy locals for the next 2 days.

Meet Terressa when she isn’t working at the smelter she loves to host people in her Wallacetown home.
Her knowledge of all things natural is outstanding.
Over the 3 days of hosting people she will teach them skills needed to hunt and gather, her guest learn by a hands on approach with Terressa guiding them.
Gutting and filleting freshly caught fish.
No day is the same.
Teressa cooks up the wild foods gathered and shares her huge knowledge of the flora and fauna.
Being a solo mum herself she has embraced living off the land to feed her whanau, this has taught them to live a healthy lifestyle which they are passing onto her mokos.

She is a mum and a wahine toa.

STATION COOK & GENERAL HAND

We are excited to be able to offer two permanent, fulltime opportunities, one for a Cook and one for a General Hand, to join our team at Okare Station.

We are a 14,500-acre sheep and beef station, 45mins inland from Wairoa under the umbrella of The Ureweras. The area has much to offer and has a welcoming community, centred around our local Ohuka school which is well supported, well resourced, and hosts multiple community events. Also, there is good hunting on the farm.

Both jobs require the applicants to be able to work cohesively as part of our team of 10 and live in our purpose-built cookhouse. The accommodation consists of a 4 bedroom home, separate from the shepherds quarters, and would be suitable for a couple with a young family.

Cooks Position:

*Must enjoy cooking. Be able to produce hearty meals within a time frame.
*Utilise the farm produce we have on hand.
*Cook within a budget.
*Enjoy interacting with young people and the team.
*Keep a tidy, clean environment.
*Cook for up to 5 shepherds, and casual workers as farming dictates.

General Hand’s Position:

*Requires fencing skills.
*Able to work with machinery (tractors etc…)
*Be adaptable to go where they are needed such as Yard work, building maintenance, water systems, killing muttons, beef etc.
*To work independently or with the team.
*Competitive Salary to be negotiated, depending on experience.
