Raining today. So got started on a new build !!!
Can’t have too many Proteus Bipes, and the one I’be been flying for nearly a year now is going really well. Especially with the new VLV govenor esc.
Fuselage is by CA Models. Paint job they’ve done is superb. Got wings and stabs to make, so plenty to do.
It will be getting the VLV contra drive and JR gear of course.
Got the rudder hinged and the gear on straight. 🍺⏰

Due to unforeseen circumstances we won’t be flying a model display at the 2024 Warbirds over Wanaka Airshow, coming up at Easter time.
The lineup for the airshow is looking awesome and we hope everything goes smoothly for Ed Taylor and his team.

Airshow season is coming up … the old Raven is a perfect test bed for the new DA215. This model has had DA170 on full length tuned pipes. DA200 on stock exhausts and canisters. DA150 on canisters.
Shoehorned the DA215 in today. Fits rights where there the 150 was. Had to make a new engine block, the firewall is set for the longer 4 cylinder 200. Got a few more jobs, bigger canisters TD130 need setting up next. Huge 3 blade prop to keep the noise down.
Been flying lots of F3A lately. 215 just meets the FAI F3A weight limit 💪🤣

We got some nice weather for flying at last ...

The struggles of being a Southern Hemisphere aero modeller in winter, preparing for a World Champs timed typically for the Northern Hemisphere Summer …. But hosted in the Southern Hemisphere 🤔
Sunny winters day but with a brisk chilly wind trying to blow the model off it’s rotisserie stand … while I’m spraying primer. Hours of therapy over the past few days sanding wet and dry. Workshop smells like an auto body shop !!!
Might get some base colour on soon.
Have put around 30 flights on her before the painting mission started so at least I know it flies well.
P.S. more stuff from DA just arrived in that box, so if you ordered gear, and you’re any good at sanding, call round at your peril 🤣

Loving the new JR Elite radio. Got it tray mounted. Been flying it for a few months now.
Anyone spot what’s just happened to my trusty Bipe ? Yep. It now runs on solar power. Never say never right. Last weekend it “fell” on the Dremel. YS200 out, VLV Contra drive in. Not many Mohicans left now ….

After a busy few months getting it rigged, the Amadeus “WC” version was test flown at a secret location this morning.
Shows a lot of promise. Only 3 flights and back to the workshop for some adjustments.
Yes I know, I know, missing the wheel pants for those with a keen eye. I was in a hurry to get her flown before sh*tty weather rolled in. I’ll pay the fine. It will have them for the next flights.
VLV contra drive pulled it no problems !!!
Obligatory full roll on take off, of course, and then 2 clicks elevator trim. A bit more fine tuning to go but it’s bloody good off the board.
Gotta get the paint booth setup soon. Plenty of sanding therapy in store. More photos when it’s looking a bit more presentable in a Bogan kiwi scheme !!!

It all rigged now. VLV contra drive in. U/C almost sorted. Rudder in the vac bag today.
I’ll fly it before the colour scheme gets done, so not too much left to do now.
Rodney Ford has been working on 3D printed spinner. Prototype arrived the other day. Couple of tweaks to get the final sizing right. 92mm !!! Yeah boy.
Also had time to set some more beer brewing today. Trying Baldrick’s new home grown Nitro infused hops. Not sure how it’s going to taste but will no doubt have plenty of power. 🤔
