We had the priviledge of being able to whakawhiti kōrero and partake in cultural exchange with the whānau from Pertame as they embark on the journey to revive and sustain their language and culture. Currently there are only 20 - 30 fluent speakers of Pertame and we loved that they shared this journey with us today.
Pīki mihi to Toi Matarua for the opportunity

It was a huge privilege to be invited to Te Aratika Academy today while attending the National Māori Language Symposium and speak to the taitamatāne about my role as mayor and some of the opportunities that come with it. Laughs all around, primo questions and a beautiful wairua.

At the beginning of the year as a guest speaker for Te Akatea in Waitangi I met the principal of the school, Whaea Case who invited be along. Was stoked when she heard I was in Hastings this week and reached out if I could still make it to speak to their students. Whanaungatanga at its finest!
