Renaming Irongate School
Monday 17 June 2024
Kia Ora e te Hāpori a Pāharakeke me nga Hāpu o Ngati Kahungunu
The Irongate School Board of Trustees would like to invite you to come along and share your thoughts on the rebranding of our school. We have been undertaking a property rebuild, and after gathering whānau voice at a series of whānau wānanga, we know that changing the name of our school is the obvious next step.
We are holding a wānanga on Wednesday 19 June at 5pm at Irongate School.
We are hoping to achieve from this wānanga a rōpu to collaborate and rename our School.
Once this has been completed, all the other variables we as a kura have been working toward will fall into place.
It would be an honour for you to join us.
Ngā mihi mahana

It was a close competition last week for our Skipping Wero. Ngā mihi to whānau who came to watch and support.
Our tamariki are getting fit skipping every day. They have practiced some tricky moves.
Fa’afetai to our Samoan aiga for preparing a wonderful last day of our Samoan Language week experience. Our kura and tamariki are so blessed in experiencing the Samoan culture. Through this we are all proud of who we are, our families and our own culture.
A full day of Ako - learning about Samoan patterns and creating our own design.
Fa’afetai Ms Williams and our Samoan aiga for organising a memorable start to Samoan Language week for us. Our week is full of Ako - tamariki and aiga leading our learning.
We love having a variety of fruit every day. Our Samoan aiga will prepare an umu for lunch too.
Great choice of activity to celebrate Term 1 Most Mana Moments. Ngā mihi to whānau who came along to support Hōtoke. We’re trying to win again in Term 2.
Some of our Senior Polynesian group will be performing on Tuesday.

Next week we will be celebrating Samoa language and we invite you to participate in any of the events held during the week, to learn more about the Samoa culture and people and what makes Samoan people so AMAZING!
We currently have 714 learners that identify as Pacific.

Lets join in on the festivities next week starting with the flag raising ceremony on Monday morning at 9am.
Manuia le vai a*o (have a great day)
Tania Dalton Foundation, created in honour of the sporting legend, has been established to make a meaningful impact on the lives of budding young New Zealanders, guiding them to lead their biggest life – as Tania did.
Leilani Williams is fortunate to have been a scholarship recipient at the foundation and this year her group is paying it forward into our communities through different initiatives.
The Tania Dalton Foundation has partnered with Rebel Sport and Silver Fern Sport for the Pass it Forward programme. For every Pass it Forward ball sold in a Rebel Sport store an identical ball is donated to the programme and distributed to schools. Leilani chose our school as one of the schools to donate balls to.
On Tuesday Leilani gave us a quick overview of Tania Dalton Foundation, her journey in sport and an outline of the Pass It Forward programme. She donated 50 balls to our school to use in our PE and sports programme.
WE ARE SO GRATEFUL. NGĀ MIHI NUI LEILANI.
This Friday 17 May tamariki can wear a pink Tshirt to kura. Bring a koha to show our support for Anti-Bullying Aotearoa Pink Shirt Day.
Our kai for a cold week ahead.
We sang our school waiata. We could see Kahuranaki. We were amongst our Ngati Kahungungu Tipuna. A Piwakawaka came to see us.
As part of our learning this term we will continue learning about our local area. Tamariki need to bring back their permission form. On their day wear warm clothes and maybe gumboots. We’ll be going on a long hikoi.
Another week of yummy kai for us.
It was great being back at kura today for Term 2.
Here is our menu for this week. We try to have some new kai to eat and our tamariki are sometimes surprised how yummy it tastes.
