This post is a hard one to write (as writing it makes it real!)...

We have loved looking after all our amazing clients and families over the years, but have decided to take a break from the LMC world and are hanging up our dopplers and scales mid next year for a year or so.

This won't affect any of our families that we are currently looking after and we are looking forward to our time left with everyone in both our Tokoroa and Cambridge clinics.

Update from waikato DHB. They are now restricting to one support person in labour. This needs to be the same person throughout and cannot ‘tag team’ with others.
We appreciate that this is stressful for everyone but it is essential that we keep all of our women and the staff safe and minimise the risk of exposure for all.
Please discuss with your midwife if you need further information.

15 Weird But Normal Things About Newborns 10/08/2021

This is a good read!

15 Weird But Normal Things About Newborns When a woman is expecting a baby soon, she starts imagining how her baby might look. She pictures the baby to be all pink, soft, and nestling in her arms quietly. But this is far from reality. In fact, some new moms might be completely taken aback on seeing their newborn – all squishy and grimy th...

It is with immense honour and great excitement that we are able to announce that Waterford Birth Centre is under the new ownership of John and Tracey Aubin.

Tracey Aubin is a passionate and dedicated midwife of 22 years in the Waikato area. Before that she was a Registered Nurse for 12 years in Whanagrei and Thames hospitals, she also was a nurse practitioner for Hospice Waikato . Tracey has loved watching Waterford grow and prosper under Jim and Christine and has dreamt of calling this business her own for many years, she had her clinic at Waterford and caught hundreds of babies there. Tracey is now making it her mission to ensure that many more mothers and babies have a safe and empowering birthing experience at Waterford if this is where they choose to go.

Tracey is a devoted wife and loving mother of seven children herself. She is famous for saying "I birthed five and was lucky enough to get two for free". Her children have slowly flown the nest over the years (however, they still pop home to raid the fridge and have a home cooked meal) leaving only her two youngest, Holly and George living at home.

Tracey’s drive and gentle wairua combined with her genuine passion is evident if you know her.... she has a loving heart. She truly cares for māmā, pēpi and the beauty and awe that is bringing new life into the world- all three are safe and protected in her capable and nurturing hands.

Tracey and her husband Johnny have fostered their passion for safe and nurturing care throughout the developmental stages of children’s lives as they opened their own childcare centre, Old MacDonad’s in both Newstead, Hamilton and Morrinsville over the last six years. A project of pride and passion which has added to their journey but Tracey has found herself back to her roots in primary birth care working hard to ensure a safe and empowering delivery for māmā and pēpi.

With dreams to further implement a strong bicultural presence and a touch more nature, nurture and sense of homeliness to our birthing haven, Tracey is looking forward to continuing on the hard mahi and aroha the previous owners have poured in to get it where it is currently.

With manakitanga, whanautagtanga, mana and aroha central to Tracey’s practice, she knows that she not only comes with her own strengths, but of those around her too. Tracey feels such honour to be working alongside her Midwifery Clinical Manager, Sarah Browne who will oversee the day to day running of Waterford as they work together to make this the best place for women and their pēpi. Tracey believes in her staff and is very aware how incredible they all are.

Tracey and Sarah have known each other for the last 18 years when they first met Sarah found herself safe under Tracey’s wing and aroha as her student midwife. 15 years on, Sarah still has the fire in her belly for Midwifery and has practiced as an LMC in the Waikato and Bay of Islands; working in a variety primary birthing centres, as well as secondary and tertiary hospitals, she has also worked in remote Australia where she had vast clinical experience which involved emergency retrievals across Torres Strait and Papua New Guinea, an experience which Sarah found very humbling.

Sarah is a proud pasifika wahine who is privileged to call the Cook Islands and Aitutaki, home. Sarah and her husband Hamish have been married for 25 years and together have two wonderful children Jacob and Paige they are awaiting the arrival of their first mokopuna later this year. When Sarah isn’t welcoming you all into Waterford and supporting our loving and dedicated kaiwhakawhānau and kaiāwhina she basks in the peace and tranquilly of her 14 acre safe haven in Te Pahu surrounded by her whaanau.

Sarah has a special soul and has an innate understanding of our commitment to ensuring Waterford is a place that honours and uphold 's Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is a welcoming facility for our community. What an honour it is to have Sarahs aroha and warm presence at Waterford where she has been for the last 2 years.

Together, we have a dream – one that we cannot wait to watch unfold with you all. Thank you for following along our journey for it is only just beginning 🤎

Please share on FB and we are just starting Insta so would very much appreciate sharing it there too - thanks ! 😘

Wow - Fascinating!!!

Human embryo at day four :)

This is a scanning electron micrograph of a human embryo at day 4. The protein coat surrounding the egg (zona pellucida, gold) has been slit to expose the embryonic cells inside (red).

These cells go on to form the embryo and can be harvested and cultured to give rise to embryonic stem cells. Microvilli are visible on the surface of the embryonic cells (blastomeres) and numerous s***m (blue) are still visible on the outside of the zona pellucida.
