Here’s something special. “AN EMPIRE’S LAMENTATION” A wood engraving by Bernard Partridge (1861-1945) acknowledging NAPIER after the 1931 EARTHQUAKE. A published full page from London’s Punch Magazine. Britannia with a Union Jack and Trident looks across the sea to the smokey ruins of Napier. This is the second of two copies known in NZ. The first via partly restricted access at the NZ National Library, and the second in the personal collection of Richard Wood. Richard will soon provide a limited number of large and extremely detailed reproductions. A truly special piece of historic illustration for Napier
