The rain is bringing back the mushrooms so keep your eyes peeled foragers. I've just picked a large basket full of oyster mushrooms. They seem to like growing on dead cabbage trees. I'm also seeing lots of new fresh green growth from the plants that have already dropped their seed so I'll be looking to run a summer workshop sometime soon as there are also summer plants here now that aren't around in the autumn, winter and spring . PM me with your phone number if you are keen for me to put you on my wait list
Anyone interested in Sweet Organic Plums $5 per kg freshly picked today. Red skins and golden yellow in the inside. PM me to order and it's pick up from my place.

What a great afternoon we had with all the children and some of the parents learning about lots of wild edible plants and getting to taste them all. They got to experience opening up all their senses and connecting in to themselves and their environment in a deeper way. They were with the true beauty of the plant and saw that we are the same as the plant on so many levels. Two children expressed that what they had common with the plant is that they are both LOVE. True wisdom there!!! Many thanks to Valma for the lovely photos to share 🥰

Whoop whoop I'm so excited!!!! I have initiated a meeting out in the field with the managers of Parks and Reserves Nelson City Council towards the end of this month. My aim is to get several locations - parks / reserves / green spaces throughout Nelson to become sprayfree so that the community can safely forage without fear of being poisoned. My hope is to encourage a new mind set with new forms of management/treatment of some of our green spaces. If you have green spaces near where you live which you think might be good for foraging wild edible plants please let me know the location/address so I can go check it out before the meeting. Below is a video that I directed/produced with a few others many years ago in Lyttelton. My aim was to create Lyttelton the first pilot community to be sprayfree on all public areas and to get fruit, nuts and berries planted in as many public spaces as possible for the community to freely forage from. My journey continues here in Nelson. Your positive energy towards this project would be greatly appreciated 🥰

Building Community Resilience and paying it forward. I'm grateful the wonderful opportunity; To be supported by Neighborhood Support to gift a free foraging workshop to some of the people that volunteered their time planting fruit, nuts and berries in the Cattle Market Reserve. It's important that our communities can forage for free nutritious food.
It's the the perfect time of year to be out Foraging. After all this rain new growth coming on. This winter I ran an introductory workshop at Tim's Gardens. There was a great turn out of 25 enthusiastic beautiful people. Now it's time to run some more workshops out on the field. If anyone is keen or have friends that want to create more resilience in their life by learning more about wild edible plants PM me and we can create space to explore together. 😀
I'm feeling super grateful to have shared yesterday afternoon with so many beautiful people, building community resilience / learning and connecting with the plants and everything around us.
A big thank you to Tuia Marama for taking all the photos

What an incredible weekend !!! Thanks to all those who came to my workshops on Saturday and Sunday, I feeling so grateful to have met you all. Thank you for sharing parts of yourselves and your knowledge, it makes it so much richer when we can co create within the workshop. We ID'ed over 50 plants/flowers along with fruit and nuts trees. I advertised the workshops to be 2 - 2.5 hours long.....and I'm sorry for running way over time on both. I have learnt 20 new plants since last season and had no idea that it would take another 1.5 hours to share them with you out on the field and still had heaps to share in which we didn't have time for. If you feel moved to write your experience under the review section on my page that would be much appreciated :)
Please feel free pass on my details to spread the word to the people you think might enjoy a workshop. Cheers Cynthia PS. Someone lost their beanie on Saturday and I have it, so please PM me so you can keep on keeping your head warm :)
One place left....for this Sunday's workshop at 11am "Making food with Wild Edible Plants"
Hi everyone,
Welcome to my new page :)
It's a great time for foraging and soon I will be running workshops again. In the mean time I thought I would share a video that I produced some years ago. This is it's first time to be up loaded live on the internet and it has also gone up on YouTube. It feels like now is such a potent time to be creating resilience within our selves, our communities and a deeper connection with mother earth.
If you are interested in joining one of my workshops or keeping updated about wild edible plants and nutrition then please follow/like this page and feel free to message me.
I am based in Nelson and look forward to sharing and connecting with you.
