It's coming into Winter 🥶and the snow ❄️ is on our beautiful maunga🗻! Time to get out that slow cooker and start making some yummy dishes to warm up our whanau. Slow cooker recipes are some of my favourites. With work and a busy whanau schedule time is a luxury in our home as it is for most so slow cooker meals give me the option of a home cooked meal that's ready for us to eat when we get home 🏠.
Here is one of my go-to Winter recipes that's full of fibre, iron and so much flavour!!

We get a lot of questions about honey and maple syrup given that they are marketed as "natural" products and contain some nutritional minerals.
This article weighs up the two but stresses the important bottom line - although both are natural if bought from pure sources they are both still classified as "free sugars" which mean they still raise blood sugar levels and we need to produce insulin to help those sugars come back down. Small amounts are key! 🍯🥞
Which is healthier: honey or maple syrup? - Healthy Food Guide Honey and maple syrup can give plain yoghurt and porridge a little oomph… but is one healthier than the other? HFG compares these popular sweeteners to see how they stack up against each other. Honey comes from bees and maple syrup from trees, so that makes them a natural product, right? The thing...

Happy Easter Whānau
Takeaway Meals, while undoubtedly take the stress out of cooking also come with a host of downfalls:
- Little nourishment for our bodies after all the salt 🧂, sugar 🍦and unhealthy fats 🧈 are taken into account
- Some can get very pricey! 💵
- Takes away the time spent cooking 👩🍳with our kids 👧🧑and passing along valuable skills and recipe ideas
Trial having a "Homemade Takeaways" night and make your fav takeaway food yourself 🍕🍔🥙🌯. Here is me and my family making sushi 🍣🍱when we were massively craving some the other night! ;) Our 2 year old was sceptical of the seaweed to begin with but gave it a go and that's all that matters! :) We didn't use expensive sushi rice or sushi vinegar but used arborio rice (you can also use basmati rice) and mixed rice wine vinegar with a little bit of honey to create the sushi vinegar. :)
Good luck to everyone participating in the Weetbix tryathlon today down at Ngamotu Beach 🏊♀️🚲🏃
Enjoy the experience

It's Pancake Tuesday! 🥞🫶😀
Whether you celebrate this day or not everyone loves a pancake day! Pancakes can definitely be a high sugar treat food if bought outside the house or in premixed products but here is an easy one you can make at home with lots of goodness for our bodies but also super tasty!
✨Ingredients:
2 medium ripe bananas (the browner the better) 🍌
2 eggs 🥚
1/2 cup milk/unsweetened almond milk/soy milk 🥛
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 ½ cups rolled oats
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon salt
Olive oil, for cooking (don't go too nuts, just enough to coat the pan)
✨Recipe:
- Put all ingredients in a blender or food processer and blend until smooth (about 30 seconds)
- Spray oil or pour a small amount of oil in the heated pan and spread batter around to desired thickness.
- Cook each side until golden brown, flipping in between (that's the fun/messy part 😉)
- To add extra goodness to your pancakes serves with fresh fruit, Greek yoghurt and sprinkle of chia seeds or the savoury route of crunchy peanut butter with chia seed sprinkle and rolled up
