Coming up! March is Brain Injury Awareness Month in New Zealand.
We will put a calendar up soon of events we are running in March to raise awareness for Brain Injury Awareness Month 2024.
Brain Injury Awareness Month is about shedding light on what is often an invisible injury.

Every 15 minutes a New Zealander sustains a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and almost all New Zealanders know somebody who has been affected. This campaign is about spreading awareness about brain injury.

Brain Injury NZ President Iain Watkins says people with brain Injuries are often frustrated when family and friends say things like ‘you look normal to me’. “One of the biggest problems with brain injury, whether accidental or acquired, is there is no visible outward sign that there is anything wrong. In fact to others around them, they look quite normal.”

TBIs can range from mild concussion to severe. The effects can be temporary or permanent.

As a result of concussion some people may experience emotional, behavioral, and thinking problems which can interfere with their lives. Most of these problems resolve within three months. However some of these symptoms may persist beyond this period. This is known as Post-Concussion Syndrome.

Brain Injury NZ offers support and resources to those who are affected – whether it be their own injury, or the injury of a loved one. We understand the daily struggles and the constant readjustments required, and we have the resources and links you need to begin enjoying life again! We are here to help and support you.

Our physios are still operating under Red. As an essential service no vaccine pass is required to see a physio but your entry into the clinic will be via a different door.

As we are located within a medical practice, screening questions will be asked prior to entry, and masks should be worn at all times.

We do have the option of Telehealth services (either video or phone consults) for those that would prefer this or for those that are isolating just request at time of booking and leave your phone and email address.

Kia Ora, here's a little update on how Kauri Physio is currently working within the new traffic light system guidelines.

1. We are a basic health service so no vaccination pass is required to see a physio
2. You may be asked for vaccination status but this will not affect the service you recieve, it will help us to follow our own safety protocols and put any neccesary measures in place e.g. using a seperate entrance.
3. Please scan or sign in on arrival
4. Face masks are required throughout
5. We are based in a joint medical centre so screening and other requirements are necessary, please answer the questions and follow the directions of the staff at the door.
6. If unwell please call to let us know, stay home and stay safe.

Here at Kauri Physio we are available to take Telehealth appointments during Level 4 and 3 lockdown.

How does it work?

1. Call and book your appt as usual on 06 357 4424

2. Before your appt you will be sent some simple instructions on how to set up for your video call appointment

3. Chat to your physio, have your assessment, and receive the care and advice you need. ✔

Note: if you are not set up for video calling or have technical difficulties, dont worry we can also do over the phone assessments.

17/08/2021

Level 4 lockdown update:

Due to a nationwide level 4 lockdown we will now be closed for a minimum of 3 days as per guidelines.

If you have an appointment booked dont worry, you won't need to do anything, your physio will be in touch with you tomorrow or over the coming days.

We will be looking into offering telehealth (video or phone) appointments from next week if lockdown is extended.

Till then,
Be kind and be safe
