📌A no show by ACT leader David Seymour to publicly debate the Treaty Principles Bill📌
ACT leader David Seymour failed to turn up at today’s arranged debate with Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira CE Helmut Modlik on The Platform.
However, the invitation remains open to a public debate between the two leaders, and others, in front of a live audience.
Let’s kōrero, as a nation, about what Te Tiriti o Waitangi means to us in the 21st century and how it can shape our future together, says Modlik “We can’t rewrite history, we’ve just got to figure out what it means for us today,” he told The Platform host Shaun Plunket.
Although some differences in opinion, shared agreement and the absence of David Seymour, they were able to give their perspectives on Te Tiriti o Waitangi, democracy, and government. “One of the endemnic weaknesses of democracy is the ability of the tyranny of the majority,” said Modlik.
In the end both Plunket and Modlik agreed, New Zealand is the best place in the world to live.
“The vast majority of New Zealanders are good, fair minded people, hard working and we have a degree of homogeneity in our values and aspirations which is the envy of the world,” said Modlik.
However, a kōrero or conversation is required by all New Zealanders to determine what to do with Te Tiriti o Waitangi in the 21st century.
