It's Fri-yay and it's also sunny ๐
Random fact of the day: cats can get pregnant from as early as 16 weeks ๐ซฃ Good to know that kittens can be desexed from around 1kg to prevent accidental pregnancy
Did you know that early kitten desexing is recommended by ISFM (International Cat Care). The ISFM also has lots of great resources and information if you are passionate about cats like we are: https://icatcare.org
Here is a recent patient recovering โจ๏ธ Isn't she super cute ๐
Enjoying the sunshine or acting as security? Possibly the cutest security we've ever seen with a bow tie ๐ on!
Recently we've seen quite a few cases of Kennel Cough. The good news is that we can vaccinate to protect against kennel cough and we can use the vaccination in an outbreak situation too.
Kennel cough vaccination only lasts for 1 year so you need to ensure your pet stays current with their vaccination. Unfortunately many pets are lapsing on their vaccinations leaving them open to pick up many nasty viral infections. Remember to keep your pet's current with vaccinations and protected.

Next week you can book in with Dr James for a FREE pet Dental check. Find out about any areas of concern or simply get some advice on the best way to keep your pet's teeth in great condition.

Are you looking for a premium treat for your pet?
Today we were introduced to Muttley's Wines, a pet friendly treat containing cat nip. Its non alcoholic and safe for both cats and dogs, cheers to that ๐
Who thinks their pet would enjoy a drop of this tipple?
Dr Katie was very impressed with this crochet cat snuggle. Perfect for keeping your pet warm and safe and reducing anxiety when travelling to the vets.
Cats in particular can find coming to the vets frightening and stressful. If you have a cat that doesn't enjoy the process, talk to us as there are multiple things that can be done to reduce stress and anxiety around vet visits.
Cats often hide pain and illness, so regular vet visits are even more important to ensure they are healthy.
Perhaps a human sized version would be great on a day like today ๐?
Have you noticed a new team member?
We'd like to introduce our new vet Dr James Holliday who started earlier this week. Dr James has just flown into New Zealand from the UK and has been enjoying his first few days at the clinic. He's had a busy few days and is looking forward to helping many more pets feel better
Dr James will be spending time working as a vet on farm and also in the clinic. Dr James enjoys the outdoors and is looking forward to exploring the local area. Make sure to say hello to Dr James and tell him about all the fun things to do and see in the Waikato

Meet this little cutie called "Bunjamin" ๐ฅฐ
Bunjamin came in recently for a full health check and annual vaccination with Filavac. Filavac covers lots of new strains of viruses which can be harmful to bunnies, making it our vaccine of choice.
Rabbits should be vaccinated from 10 weeks of age and then annually for their lifetime to ensure full protection.
During your rabbit's vaccination they will get a compete head to tail check up including assessment of their teeth length and alignment. This means that we can check for any dental issues which may be affecting their health.
We'd love to help you keep your bunny ๐ฐ in top health: 07 870 2696
We have another feel good story this week. And this one is a goodie, although we weren't sure it was going to have a happy ending...And there were some very sad children along the way ๐ข and a very sad vet too ๐ฅบ
Our own Vet, Dr Katie's 9 year old cat Maisey went missing back in March. Now this was a huge shock to the family as Maisey is very food orientated and never ventures too far due to her obsession with food and cuddles. Several months passed and there had been no sign of Maisey and the whole family and clinic probably thought she wasn't coming back ๐ We actually feared the worst...
Until one day at the end of May, Demi received a phonecall from another vet clinic to say they had just scanned a stray cat brought in by a very nice person and guess what it was Maisey!!! Even better she was ALIVE and WELL!! Demi very kindly rushed to collect Maisey and fed her overnight before she had a full check up with Dr Gabe. Maisey was a bit thin and untidy but was 100% ok! Thank you to Demi and Gabe for helping Maisey โค๏ธ
We just couldn't believe this amazing outcome, all thanks to microchipping and the NZCAR (national companion animal register) and obviously the amazing human that found Maisey and took her to the vet! Thank you ๐ซถ
So just a reminder if you find a pet please bring them into the clinic so that we can scan them and see if they are lost. This is FREE and will always be FREE to help cats like Maisey get reunited with their owners โค๏ธ
To celebrate Maisey's return and if you'd like to increase your chances of being reunited with your pet, we are offering 50% off pet microchipping with NZCAR registration until 10th June! Book in: 07 870 2696

Yesterday we said farewell to vet nurse Amanda. Amanda has been a huge part of the clinic, starting off as a student vet nurse and then moving to become a fully fledged Diploma qualified vet nurse ๐
Amanda has been carefully monitoring anaesthetics and caring for your pets over the past few years, giving them the best care and compassion โค๏ธ
Amanda has also been kept busy over the years keeping the vets sorted and organised (it's a challenging job ๐คฃ), fueling the team with her AMAZING baking and being a general great person.
We know she'll be coming back to see her favourite vet ๐ (Dr Katie), probably to make sure she's organized and her children are behaving!
Big thanks for all your amazing patient care and dedication, good luck on your next adventure from all the team
๐พSurvivor Story of the Week๐พ
Poor Handsome Hank had a very close shave when a tail gate fell onto him recently ๐ซ
Good to see him feeling better and ready to head off home. Thanks Dr Gabe for these awesome photos of this very lucky doggie.
It's always good to know there is an experienced pair of hands ready and waiting to fix any poorly pets: 07 870 2696
Is your pet current with their annual vaccinations? With increasing outbreaks of disease like cat flu and parvovirus, the only way to protect your pet is with vaccination.
Being a rural area we also vaccinate dogs against Leptospirosis, which is a disease that humans can catch (zoonotic). It is important to protect your pets health but also your health too. Recent studies have shown that animals likes hedgehogs are important in spreading Leptospirosis...
Over the years the clinic has experienced outbreaks of kennel cough, parvovirus, panleukopenia in kittens, cat flu and various other nasty gastro bugs. Often these diseases require medications, diagnostic testing and lots of vet and nurse time. Vaccination provides the protection and safety that we want for our pets. Ultimately it gives us peace of mind
If you are not sure if your pet is current with their vaccinations, please contact the clinic to find out. Alternatively login to your account online and check out your pet's history: www.3stonevets.co.nz
Who loves a good cat meme? This is for anyone who has ever had an anaesthetic and the moment of confusion that immediately hits you.
Our vet nurses take such great care of all pets under going anaesthesia and they have dedicated one-to-one care. This is something that we can provide because we are a smaller boutique clinic. Our aim is high level quality patient care. Your pet is always in safe hands and wake up to a cuddle and some love, even if its not quite what they expected.
Which one if your favourite, let us know?

Dr Gabe has been seeing some extra tiny patients, meet Mary and her sister. We think these little cuties might be our smallest patients. We are really now "all creatures great and small"!!!
Shortly we will be announcing an EXTRA SPECIAL OFFER to welcome our new vet Dr Gabe to clinic. Watch this space!
Make sure your pets are protected against TICKS.
All vets in New Zealand have been notified by MPI about a dog infected with Babesia Gibsoni in Canterbury. Babesia is an unwanted and notifiable organism in New Zealand.
Babesia gibsoni is a parasite that causes the rupture of red blood cells in dogs and is widespread in other parts of the world. It is spread by TICKS, so appropriate parasite control is really critical.
What are the symptoms to look out for in your dog? These are some of things that you might notice so it is so important to get your pet checked out if you think they are not their normal self:
Lethargic/tired
Off of their food/not eating
Depressed/sad
Vomiting
Generally not themselves
