Just-In-Time Tutoring
I am a passionate primary school teacher available to help your child with their learning journey.
What is included in your child's tutoring sessions?
Pre-assessments - to gauge where your child is at and any gaps in their learning.
Ongoing informal assessments - learning activities will be closely monitored and analysed to ensure the child is grasping the concept and skills being taught.
Ongoing feedback - anything that is learned in each lesson can be discussed with the parent in regard to strengths and areas for improvement.
A subscription to Reading Eggs - a digital platform for children with reading activities, writing activities and mathematics for children to complete at home to further improve their skills and understanding.
Homework - upon request I am able to set specific homework based on the lesson that day for the child to practise before I see them again.
A little about me:
I am a passionate primary school teacher of 14 years. I absolutely love being a mum and spending time with my 2 year old son. We enjoy reading, playing outside, making crafts, and building things together.
I love teaching and I love interacting with and supporting students in their pathways toward greatness. The best part of teaching is watching students succeed. Every student is different, an individual, and has their own talents and interests. Getting to know these and watching students pave their pathway to becoming an adult is always a rewarding addition to my work.
I am a trained yoga teacher for children so believe in the importance of being present, calm, and kind.
A little information about the lessons I teach:
I have been teaching primary school students in Australia for 14 years and New Zealand now for a term. I believe an hour per subject is a good amount of time to grasp the learning of a lesson, but I can be flexible on this if needed.
I believe it is important for students to know exactly what they are learning and why it is important, as well as what they need to show/do in order to be successful so all lessons will have a learning intention and success criteria.
I follow the gradual release of responsibility model which means all lessons follow a structure of:
1. "I do" - where I show or model the learning intention for the learning intention.
2. "We do" - where we have a go at being successful at the learning intention together. Collaboration and support in being successful is an important parts of learning.
3. "You do" - where the student has a go at the learning task and attempts to meet the success criteria.
All lessons will involve ongoing feedback, time to ask questions or reclarify anything that is not making sense or any areas of confusion.
It is important to know where the student is at and create individual goals and learning pathways through ongoing assessments that can be informal (learning attempts) and formal (assignments, tasks, or projects).
I have a passion for student well-being and will always build a rapport with the student to ensure they feel understood, supported, and safe when working with me. The student's well-being is my number 1 priority, and their academic ability comes second to that.
What do I specialise in?
I am a lover of literacy. My favourite parts of being a teacher are listening to children read and reading children's writing.
READING: I really enjoy helping children read with confidence, not being afraid to have a go at sounding out tricky words or asking what a word means when they are reading with me.
WRITING: I enjoy reading children's texts and having discussions on their ideas, storylines, and questions I have as a reader and also teaching them ways of editing so that their writing is reader-friendly for a broader audience.
MATHEMATICS: I have completed some great professional developments and have learnt some great ways to practise and learn the fundamentals of mathematics. Through games and open-ended tasks, a lesson in maths with me will be enjoyable and targeted to your child's ability level.
WELLBEING: No matter what the lesson is going to be about your child's mental health and wellbeing are the highest priority. I believe children thrive in safe, supportive, structured and predictable environments, and this is my goal of each and every lesson.
