Chilly Bin Adventures
Living life one adventure at a time
We have a few little Chilly Bin Adventures features in the Camping the Kiwi Way magazine by All Points Camping NZ Camping Club
It’s a cool little mag where kiwis share their stories and advertise their local businesses. It’s a free online magazine that’s worth a read for those after a bit of light reading on their travels!
Here at Chilly Bin Adventures, we appreciate our followers!
As a way to show our appreciation we have teamed up with Kathmandu Petone to offer you a discount voucher for 30-50% off of full price Kathmandu products from their Petone branch! All you have to do is come down and say hi 👋 to the Chilly Bin Adventures team at the expo to grab a free voucher!
Tent shopping time! I found a little hidden gem in Palmerston North selling some good quality outdoor equipment. Check it out!
All packed and ready to go for the weekend. Got the trusty Oztent up on the roof ⛺️ 💪🏻
Merry Christmas everyone! Safe wheeling over the break! See you all in 2024 for more chilly bin adventures 🍻
Sunny arvos are for cleaning 🧼
Had a day in the forest with the local 4x4 club. Lucky enough to have ARB in with us. Their vehicle definitely looks the business 👌🏻
On my ‘Roof Top Tent VS Swag’ video on YouTube, I looked at the pros and cons of both and for the few times a year I go camping, I decided that the swag will be a better fit for my style as the roof top tent will be costing me a lot more fuel through the year as well as making my vehicle handling worse off road! With this, my search for a swag began and I came across a shop in Palmerston North called Heatrite who are NZ suppliers of the Oztent range. I expressed my interest of this brand of swag to the team and they have chosen to come on board with Chilly Bin Adventures as a sponsor of the channel! What this means is that you as the viewer of my channel will be getting a real life review from someone who lives and breathes the NZ Outdoors. For a bit of info on what the Oztent range looks like, jump on their website 😎 https://oztentnz.co.nz/

Taking a vehicle off road wears brake pads down faster than if you stayed on the hard stuff.
You are not only on and off the brakes a lot more but dirt and rocks on the brake caliper is like sand paper for brake pads and most brake pads are just not designed for off road conditions.
These brake pads passed the previous warrant but didn’t make it to the next so make sure to check your pads if you don’t have the wear indicator tab to let you know as finding out you are metal on metal half way down a hill off road isn’t the best way to spend a weekend 😎
Do 12V Electric blankets work for camping? I try one out for myself!

Bit of a diesel heater vehicle entry prototype.
New Video LIVE ON YOUTUBE! On this episode we visit the famous New Zealand 4WD track North Range Road.
A usually easy track has made a turn for the worst with heavy rain bringing big holes, slippery ruts and difficult terrain.
Some of us need towing, some of us need winching and some of us end up taking home vehicle damage to tell the story...

The 4X4 and Camping Expo 2023 went really well this year as a launch for this style of event in Wellington and Brewtown ended up being the perfect venue to hold this.
Chilly Bin Adventures is teaming up with Brewtown to hold another one for 2024. This time as an Outdoor Expo with more than 4x4 and camping accessories on display.
There is more planning to go as far as stall setup/ sizes .etc but we are starting to take expressions of interest for those that want to get involved so flick us a message if you have any questions.
For those that didn't attend last years event, here is a short video to give you a bit of an idea what to expect:

When you're 4WDing out on the tracks it only takes a slight lapse of concentration and you can end up rolling your vehicle.
If you do roll, there can be so much tension on your seat belt that it can't get be un done (like when you try to pull it out on a hill) or if you roll in water it may be impossible to open the windows.
I know we are talking extremes here. Personally I have always been a firm believer in 'Hope for the best, plan for the worst'. That's why I always carry one of these Resqme car escape tools from Tactical Solutions on my keychain. It has a built in seat belt cutter and windscreen breaker and being located on your key chain it will always be within reach to get yourself and your passengers out in the event of an emergency 👍
My passion for adventure has lead to many off road vehicle choices over the years.
One thing that I've learnt is that there is no one vehicle that is perfect for everything. Each vehicle is great at certain things but not everything.
Something that they all have in common though is that they allow you to get out there and discover the parts of New Zealand that are off the main road 🤘
