HandMade
HANDMADE is a festival of making based in Wellington over Queen's Birthday weekend.
We were blown away by these beautiful, ethically sourced baby mobiles ❤
Each animal is shaped by hand and is solid wool so there are no seams at all on this design! This would be perfect for a baby shower gift or for baby's first Christmas.
All of the felt wool items are designed by Rachel at https://www.facebook.com/tiktakdesignco/ and then made in Nepal.
Rachel works with 3 small family run workshops in Nepal, using 100% New Zealand wool. These talented artisans turn her designs into reality, and then she takes all the pieces created and turns them into baby mobiles right here at home, in Hamilton.
These handmade cookies look too good to eat! Gina at Oh My Cookie https://www.facebook.com/ohmycookienz creates some amazingly designed cookies with her two young boys.
We love the look of these little elf sugar cookies - orders available for Christmas!
Celebrity Treasure Island brought a beloved face to our screens again - CHRIS PARKER! Chris was fortunate enough to win this years show, with his prize money going to Rainbow Youth 🏳️🌈
Chris was also in the spotlight in 2020 (not only for his comedy) for his creative hat design 🎩 Glad to have him home safe and sound to maybe make some more delightful garments!
Kiwi comedian creates felt hat featuring Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Dr Ashley Bloomfield The money given will be donated to charity.
Check out the incredible work of Alice Alva, multi-disciplinary visual artist based in Wellington. We love all of the colours and textures she incorporates into her work across so many different mediums! Choosing only a few photos to post was nearly impossible, so visit her website alicealva.com for more—your eyes will thank you!
Anybody else find it hard to stay motivated when it's cold and raining outside 🙋🏼♀️? You aren't alone!
We love these cute illustrations from artist Gemma Correll. Check her page for more totally relatable artwork to brighten your day!
For such a small country, New Zealand is brimming with amazing talent! We are also known as a humble bunch, so sometimes that talent stays hidden.
Tag your favourite Kiwi creatives here so that we can show them some love over the coming months and celebrate New Zealand's creative community.
P.S. Don't be shy--you can tag yourself too 😉.
All of this dreary weather lately has us dreaming of warmer days and sunny adventures. Have you seen these dreamy prints made by UK artist Rhi James .studio following her travels through New Zealand? We're so lucky to be surrounded by so much beauty and inspiration here in Aotearoa!
Giving our latest latch hook project a little trim before using it as a fluffy pillow cover! We learned latch hooking from at HandMade last month and are now having a blast making our own patterns. How have you been putting your HandMade skills to use?

With all of the different social media platforms available to us today to share our creative endeavours on, it’s easy to get caught up in the finished result of a project and the way others might react to it. This sort of pressure can take the joy out of creating! We encourage you to come along to Wellington artist Nick Cottrell’s Hirameki workshop next weekend to add a little playfulness back into your art practice. Hirameki means “flash of inspiration” in Japanese. The idea is to look at seemingly random painted shapes and let your creativity run free, turning the paint splatters and blobs into characters or symbols hidden within your imagination. You don’t need to have any experience painting or even drawing to participate. There are no rules—only possibilities!
