WAHAIKA. Tangiwai. Tai Tapu.

Another southern Mere from Takivai / Williamsite
Pekapeka for comission
Hei Tiki. Hapopo Pounamu. 5cm x 8cm
Moeraki black Agate + Sterling Silver. Took a ringmaking class recently so this stone finally gets to tell it's story. One for the whanau collection.
Moeraki is the nohoaka of the Kai te Rakiamoa hapu, the landing site of the Araiteuru waka, and the birthplace of Tamaiharanui, the last paramount chief of the South Island. It was also the site of a Whare Wanaka dedicated to the histories and traditions of the Waitaha people.
From Te Po came Te Ao. From Kore-te-Matua came Maku. Raki-i-tu-nei took Pokoharua-nui-Te-Po to wife and begat Aoraki, his firstborn. Traversing the earthly realm his waka capsized, becoming Te Waka o Aoraki, The South Island, where he inhabits Aoraki Mauka Ariki / Mt. Cook.

Bro had some boulders and slabs he wanted cut. This Obay stone is interesting stuff, wouldn't call it Aotea like some do but got some nice colours. Didn't want this 100lb Tangiwai but looks gemmy enough for mere.
3lb 9oz tumbled offcuts #600
West Coast jade, bowenite, aotea, up to 5cm length
Mostly unsuitable for pendants
Good for small cabochons, arts & crafts, ringmaking, etc
$60 inc P&P
Hei Matau. Arahura Kawakawa. 8cm.
Another small piece from Te Horo / Anita Bay. 5cm.
Kouma / Breastplate. Chatoyant blue Tangiwai from Te Horo / Anita Bay source, collected and carved by Murihiku whanau. 5cm x 6cm. Ataahua piece of rare Southwestland Bowenite resembling fine Inanga.
Manaia Koropepe. Marsden Flower Jade / Taramakau Raukaraka.
Manaia are spiritual guardians from the realm of Takaroa, these forces of nature are represented in bird headed and fish tailed forms with undulating bodies. When blessed they repel misfortune and cause the abundant essence of Mauri to flourish. Said to represent an eel, this rare form was popularised in the Huringa period, the name is probably a variation on Koropeke, meaning curled up.
Kuru Pounamu, Pipiotahi Tangiwai. Sterling Silver.
No filter just morning sun and Mamaku branch.
Went on kind of a tangent yesterday after rediscovering some bits of garnet in a pile of slabs. Really like this one for the combination of transparency and milky/cloudy bits, combined with the black inclusion it has a sort of dark and light thing going on like storm clouds with a little hint of blue.
Various recent Toki
Hei Taniwha. Arahura Kokopu.
The Tuare / Hagfish style body is a distinctive feature from Tai Tokerau carving.

Te Tohu o Kereru graces our new gift bags, pretty stoked with these
Manaia, 6cm, Arahura Inanga.
Very pure translucent Inanga with some flowering on the tail, from a natural cobble tumbled in the awa.
Pale, dendritic Kokopu is found in the Kawhaka Stream and the banks directly below where it joins the Arahura.

Nectar Kokopu
Hei Toki. 7cm. Arahura Kawakawa with Moa Bone inlays. The bone is from Mawhera, out of a historic estate, 400+ years old.
Bit of an experiment, I might try adding Kokowai to it next time for colour.
