Our latest alumni to showcase is Alana LePine. Almost 20 years later, Alana is still serving young people and youth workers.

We are especially proud of all those youth workers out there who are counting in decades or generations of youth work. Your ongoing service and wisdom for the sector and to communities of young people across Aotearoa is pivotal now more than ever.

We unfortunately farewelled Hēmi Te Hēmi from governance at Praxis last week. Hēmi has served on our board for the last six years and, more recently, as our Co-Chair. This also follows years of teaching at block courses. Hēmi has been pivotal in helping Praxis move to a more Te Tiriti o Waitangi centred organisation.

We wish Hēmi, Tracy and the whānau every blessing in this new season, and we look forward to an ongoing friendship in other capacities.

Just a few snaps from Praxis local hikoi across the motu over the last couple of days.

Why read about something in a book or in a classroom when you can jump in a van with a bunch of other youth workers and whakarongo to the stories of Aotearoa.

Over the next couple of months, we thought it would be fun to highlight some of our alumni and what they are up to now.

There is no better way to start than with one of our own champions, who is an educator with us and a youth worker with Te Ora Hou Whanganui.

A transformative week. Yr1 Noho & Yr2 Te Hikoi...

Photos from Praxis New Zealand's post 23/07/2024

The first half of Block 3 2024 (Noho / Hikoi) has been filled with beautiful connections and learning for students and staff alike.

19/07/2024

Recently we held one of our Praxis Educator workshops. We're really excited whenever we get a new group of 'Educators' come through our Community Education programme. We love partnering with like-minded organisations, who are supporting rangatahi achieve unit standards through youth development initiatives.

Sarah Beardmore is one of our most recent Educator Graduates. The mahi she does with Te Hā o Mātauranga - Learning in Kaikōura is awesome!

See what she says about the Community Education programme here: "Working with Praxis, and becoming an accredited Assessor for the Praxis ComEd programme has opened up a new approach for us at Te Hā o Mātauranga - we are now able to support our learners through relevant unit standards, helping them gain NCEA, without having to either buy in expensive programmes or work in online environments that don't suit them. We can tailor our learning programmes far more effectively to be supporting our rangatahi to be work ready, to be life ready and to consolidate and gain skills that set them up for starting out in the workforce and independent living. Praxis has been super supportive and their teaching/learning approach fits very well into our values at Te Hā o Mātauranga."

Last week, our team took a few days together to connect, take stock and invest in each other before the second half of the learning year. Ever wondered what we get up to when we aren't with our students.....

Whānau is really important to us at Praxis and we loved having so many of our kids involved.

We now look forward to a big term 3 at Praxis Education Kenepuru and Yr2 Te Hikoi/ Yr1 Noho for our Youth Work training next week.
