Ben's Knives
A work in progress. This is where I'll post works I've completed, projects I'm working on, maybe some making videos.
Most of the pieces I'll post are available for sale.
Photos of my first complete sword build. Made this one specifically for MoD ceremony at CF
The guard progresses.
Still some shaping to go on the handle, and a lot of finishing work to go on the guard
Well, about out of CO2, argon, LPG and the gas spring in the workshop chair has given up.
But the guard is coming together
Progress update, did some more forming and welding after we took Mr to the new paw patrol movie.
Will clean up all these welds before I sort the other side out
Needs a bit of clean up before I start bending the parts into shape. Complex hilt seems a fair term
New welding table tacked up and ready to go over the welds.
First time using a proper respirator pack for welding, dam they are amazing. Nothing but fresh clean air
Just finished this set off
These two just about finished. Brass to polish then put an edge on
Part of a commission in progress
Some works in progress. Still a lot of cleanup to go after roughing them out on the plasma cutter
Various pieces in differing states of progress
This one’s shaping up nicely, now to clean up the brass before putting an edge on it
Some works in progress
Not bad for a days work.
140 layer ladder pattern of 1084 & 15N20
Blood, sweat and thankfully no tears. Pieces for the next 3 gorgets are ready to rivet onto leather. Think I’ll need to order more rivets to finish all of them though
Haven’t posted in a while, working on a bolster with some fun angles today
Just finished this one today
Blade: 15N20 & 1084

Finally put an edge on this one.

Brass bolster and pin
G10 detail
Recently made these for friends that are moving away.
Decided to do something special and make a matched pair of knives for them.
The steel is the remainder of a billet from a stag do knife class with one of them. There wasn’t enough steel for two full tang knives so I came up with a work around to make two blades from the left over piece of billet.
The wood for the handles was cut from one larger block.
The brass bolsters were cut from the same brass bar.
The brass pins were all cut from the same brass rod.
Where ever possible the pieces used to make these knives came from larger single pieces of material.
Yesterday was making pattern welded billets, today rough grinding. I currently have 9 knives in the go in various stages.
More photos to follow over the next month as blades are etched and finished
I meant to finish this one a week back but it’s coming along now. Just have to do a little more handle shaping.
Blade: 1084 and 15N20 pattern welded steel
Handle: stabilised She oak with brass and detail in G10
Second one finished this holiday
Just need to put an edge on this one to finish it
Another knife in progress, will be interesting trying to fit a curved bolster and handle together
One of my current works in progress, hand sanding/polishing done now ready to etch
