The One Room Fan Museum
A sooo cool home-based museum in Wellington about Lord of the Rings fandom!! Visit by arrangement - Experience page on the website has more info and pics!
This is a Lord of the Rings superfan's private collection of memorabilia that is open to the public by arrangement. It's interactive with costumes to try on and props such as replica weapons.
Moving Weta Workshop tribute - and the King's armour is dear to my heart too. Hail Theoden King! ๐ช๐ฟ๐น
TORN tribute ๐ฟ๐น
โI go to my fathers, in whose mighty company I shall not now feel ashamedโฆโ It is with great sadness that we share the loss of Bernard Hill, who brilliantly embodied King Thรฉoden of Rohan in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. He passed away today, May 5, 2024, at the age of 79. Hill's portrayal of Thรฉoden is etched in the memory of us all, expertly capturing the noble
And PJs lovely tribute ๐ฟ๐น

Bernard Hill, known for roles in The Lord of the Rings and Titanic, dies aged 79 The British actor is best known for playing a ship's captain in Titanic and a king in the Lord of the Rings films that won a combined 22 Oscars.
This post resonates with the sadness i feel. ๐ช๐ฟ๐น
Godspeed, Bernard Hill. Folks will be sharing memories of his various roles today, but for me, Thรฉoden King stands alone - a standout performance in a film series full of standout performances.
May his family be comforted during this difficult time. โค๏ธ
Had a blast with these fabulous visitors Eat Wander Explore yesterday. I had to laugh, they were having a day off (their kids were at the zoo with gran) but who was having more youthful fun I wonder?? What a magical visit, thanks guys! Kathy ๐๐ฟ๐น
What's to be done with two rascally hobbits?? We often get this problem at the Fan Museum, but it's easily solved with a few laughs and another costume change. Thanks for sending your pics, Vincent. You guys were so much fun! ๐๐ฟ๐น
Move over air guitar - here's the AXE guitar!!! Rocking it at the Fan Museum Eeva!! ๐๐ฟ๐น
Power couple Charmaine and Tony totally rock these LOTR costumes at the Fan Museum. They look so good that taking their pics I felt like PJ filming takes for the movies! "Legolas, what do your elf eyes see?" "You shall not pass!" It was just such fun!! ๐๐ฟ๐น
There's been some absolutely brilliant LOTR fans visiting the Fan Museum in the last 2 weeks. What fun we've been having. Thanks Briana for sending me these pics, you guys look terrific!! And I just love your own Arwen costume as well โค, and great use of a Fan Museum bookmark as a prop. So good to see such cool folk here visiting NZ again! Love it! ๐๐ฟ๐น
Liz sent me this wonderful link to the NZ Army Band playing a LOTR medley. A blast!! ๐๐ฟ๐น

Sometimes a cool Hobbit comes to the Fan Museum and offers you their service. Accepted, Meriadoc!! ๐๐ฟ๐น
As my oldest and dearest friend said - "We love a book, we're not crazy chicks!" Weeeelll?? Anyway, happy Bilbo and Frodo birthday! And happy 6th birthday to the Fan Museum! ๐๐ฟ๐น

Yes!!! These fab costumes are still there on display at the top of the cable car! ๐๐ฟ๐น๐น
My friend in Germany sent me this cool video clip - she went to a BRILLIANT concert of Fellowship music in tbe Netherlands. It took me right back to the concert i went to in Wellington NZ 20 years ago in November 2003! Thank u Kirsten ๐๐ฟ๐น
I made myself "orc" fingerless mittens!! It was a mistake (patches of rib where there shouod be moss stitch cos of knitting black wool in the dark) but I decided they would be deliberately non-matching like the actual orc gloves in the Fan Museum that survived Helms Deep!! ๐๐ฟ๐น๐ก
Kirsten the dawn photographer and delightful Museum visitor shared her Paths of the Dead experience with me. I hoped we could go together, but I wasn't quick enough to catch her! Utterly magic pics tho! ๐๐ฟ๐น
Gorgeous Galadriel looking in the Mirrror at the Fan Museum yesterday ๐ฟ๐น

Daughter rocks Gimli costume, including felt helmet. Off to Armageddon in the morning!! ๐ฟ๐น
Repainting Gandalf's beards! Washed after each wear, over time - sans Balrog, he goes from Gandalf the grey to Gandalf the whte! ๐ฟ๐น๐งโโ๏ธ
Gimli costume going to Armageddon this weekend with my cool daughter. But I wanted to save her lugging a big helmet when it's not being worn, so here's the all FELT helmet in the making! ๐๐ฟ๐น
My Nan was such an inspiration! I make costumes for the Fan Museum but I'm such an amateur compared to her genius. She was a trained milliner but stopped working on her marriage, as women did then. But she then started making "hats" (ie, amazing creations) for the local theatre, and I grew up surrounded by these. I particularly loved her jewelled masks for the four winds in Listen To The Wind (pictured). I felt so honoured, after she passed away, when my Mum gave me her costume jewelry and tools. I used some of this jewelry to make Arwen's crown, and other pieces to make Theoden's helmet. I feel her with me when I'm making things. Such a joy. Thanks Nan โค๏ธ
