This my friends is the Coromandel Volunteer Fire Brigade annual fishing contest! This year 167 fishermen and women including eight children under 14 competed for the major prizes of mystery weight and average snapper weight.
For the first time ever the weather made an impact with a brief subtropical front showing its face resulting in Fridays fishing being cancelled but it was all go on the Saturday with some beautiful fish being weighed at the end of the day, followed by prize giving and a lamb on a spit meal. The evening was topped off by a sensational game of rugby by the NZ Black Ferns winning the World Cup!
A huge thank you to the local Coromandel community and Hunting & Fishing Te Rapa for their support and sponsorship.

Despite the heavy rain it was great turn-out for the clay bird challenge. Almost 50 clay bird shooters braved the heavy downpours with stellar results. Well done to everybody involved especially two young shooters and what a result for our more experienced shooters, a 5-way tie on 40 targets hit! Congratulations to everybody who participated and to the winners. A huge thank you to the Dargaville Volunteer Fire Brigade for the hosting the after function. WELL DONE!
