Alexia represents the strength and beauty of my family matriarchy. A tiny urban winery in the heart of Greytown.
Surprise! We've been working hard over the past 18 months to make something new that is pink, fizzy and delicious...and now we are ready to launch it to the WORLD this Spring...starting with Greytown!
That's right, the Alexia Méthode Traditionnelle Rosé NV fizz is here and we'd love you to join us to celebrate its debut!
We've done it like they do in Champagne - using the "traditional method". We can also say hand on heart it's 100% made, bottled, aged, riddled and disgorged by hand, by us, right here at Alexia so you know we've put everything into it! That deserves a bit of a pop-up party!
The Alexia kitchen has even designed a special gourmet menu "Tom's Toasties", which crowd favourite (and menu namesake) Tom will be bussing all day. So if you feel like a glass of pink fizz and a delicious gourmet toastie, mark Saturday 14 September in the diary and we'll see you there!
Great to see winemaker Jane Cooper on the cover of NZ Winegrower Magazine talking all things wine and innovation!
The just-released issue of New Zealand Winegrower magazine shines a spotlight on both veterans of and relative newcomers to the New Zealand wine industry. Read in-depth interviews with the 2024 Fellows of New Zealand Winegrowers - Nick Hoskins, Xan Harding, and Michael Brajkovich MW, and meet some of the industry's finest young viticulture talent.

Thanks Greytown you absolutely rinsed us for Fondue Chalet! 100 fondue pots, 150 cheese rolls, plus a million baked Brie all hoovered up, not to mention the Toblerone crème doughnuts (gone in the first hour)! You never know with these things if the vision will work…wine and cheese who knew?!?! Probably our most audacious pop up to deliver logistically so thanks for your patience when it got busy and joining in on the RIDICULOUS break from serious wine stuff. We loved it. We love you. This is our tiny, wonderful team (+Lesley behind the camera) who delivered the wine and cheese today for you xx
Toblerone Crème Doughnuts at Fondue Chalet while they last!
The ‘Alexia Holiday Programme’ was in full swing today bottling another round of our Rosè Mèthode Traditionnelle NZ. Our excellent little team had 1200 bottles packed and stacked for secondary fermentation in no time!
Winemaker Jane is back with another reckons. Another one? What’s going on? We’ve released our first new Chenin in 2 years! Will she be able to keep up with this break neck video production pace? Unlikely. What’s the Chenin like? Listen on.
Winemaker Jane is back from the depths of the winery with more reckons! What’s she been up to this time? Making our ‘Family Tree’ White Pinot Noir. What’s that? Jane has all the info. Will I like it? We think so.
Taco Taqueria yesterday was fantastic!
🌮🍷
It was great to have the support of so many of our regulars AND Mesita’s regulars. We appreciate you always turning up for us!
🌮🍷
For those of you who came to Alexia for the first time - we enjoyed having you and we hope to see you again soon!
🌮🍷
Pop-ups look pretty breezy, but a lot of work goes into making them successful (the Mesita team even hand rolled 400 tacos!),so thanks Mesita for saying yes to doing a thing with us and your fantastic tacos.
🌮 🍷
Next pop up is Fondue Chalet - celebrating hot cheese and cool wine, Saturday 20 July - 12pm-5pm. See you soon!
🚨NEW WINE ALERT!🚨
Alexia 2024 Wairarapa Family Tree White Pinot Noir
A rich, complex white wine made from Pinot Noir grapes.
"We climbed this old tree together for years, until one day you weren't there
and when I looked up, your branch was empty
I'll always be with you, you whispered
so I pulled an invisible thread from your heart, tied it to mine
and kept climbing."
White heron/kōtuku – sacred guardian and messenger of the spirit world.
Inspiration for this wine - our parents. Over our 20 years together we’ve supported each other through the deaths of them all now. During vintage 2024 we lost our family's last mother, last parent, last grandparent - our beautiful Annette.
We are at the top of the family tree now, and to be honest, not having the presence and love of our parents around us has left us a little untethered and at sea.
Grief is a funny old thing. No one can carry it for you, and while your head knows they are gone, your heart takes a while to catch up. Over time we’ve each realised we’ve just had to let it become part of who we are. So we’ve given it a place in the Alexia story too.
This wine is a little bit about the sadness of those branches of the family tree being empty, but mostly it's a wine remembering with gratitude what we know we had.
Taste: Quince, pear, saline, serene.
Available on our website now and at Alexia for our Greytown Festival of Christmas pop-ups on July 6 and July 20.
Thank you so much Geoff Francis of Goodeye Design for such a beautiful label for this wine.
Off to bottling. Jane deserves her flowers for hustling hard since vintage to get 4 really beautiful wines ready to go.
Just one week to go until our first Greytown Festival of Christmas event Taco Taqueria with Mesita! 12pm - 5pm Saturday 6 July here at Alexia. Here’s an action shot winemaker taking a short standing up break during our busy wine preparations. We will have THREE new vintages being released next week , including a BRAND NEW WINE for us so we are very excited!! See you soon!
ALL GONE! The Alexia 2019 Blanc de Blancs Mèthode Traditionnelle is SOLD OUT! Thank you everyone who has supported us by buying this wine. The hard work we put into making, aging, riddling and disgorging this all in house feels worth it when we know people really enjoy the end product. In the meantime, stay tuned for our next release of the Blanc de Blancs (2020 vintage) in October!
Last dig out of vintage 2024! Winemaker Jane on the shovel for our first little ferment of Lagrein grown at Manuka Flats Vineyard, West Taratahi. Jane made Lagrein in her Italian winemaking days, so it’s exciting to be making a NZ version here in Wairarapa.
Saturday 20 July- 12pm-5pm.
Yodelayheehoo! We're bringing the alps to Alexia for the Greytown Festival of Christmas, transforming our little urban winery into a cosy alpine chalet celebrating all things hot cheese!
It's like après-ski, without the skiing or the snow. It's guaranteed to be fun though!
Our cheese fondue is the star of the show - with plenty of bread to dip of course! We'll be serving up these little hot pots of melted happiness alongside some other hot cheese delicacies all matched to the Alexia wine list. We'll even have our own special alpine themed doughnut for a sweet finish!
We may not have the Matterhorn or Mont Blanc but we do have mountains of cheese and wine, a covered terrace, blankets and plenty winter spirit to share!
It's going to be a lot of fun so lock in the date, wrap on those ski goggles and colourful jumpers and see you at Alexia!
GF - substitutes available.
Essential details: No bookings required - just turn up and cosy in. No dogs - please leave your furry friends at home.

Hola! Alexia is bringing a little bit of Mexican fire to the Greytown Festival of Christmas!
For one day only our little urban winery is transforming into a cheery Mexican inspired taqueria! Our friends from Mesita will be keeping things HOT in the kitchen, turning out their famous tacos, salsas and sauces - all matched to the Alexia wine list of course!
Need a little bit of heat? Order that salsa! Missing summer sun burn? Pile on that hot sauce! Craving a beach cabana? Check out our chilled red!
It's a little bit of sunshine all wrapped up in a taco and it's going to be a lot of fun - so lock in the date and see you at Alexia!

Barrel filling almost done…some golden Pinot Noir, Gamay AND a little something new all being tucked up in some lovely oak for a winter sleep under the watchful eye of winemaker Jane.
Come in chilled red! Pressed this beauty off skins to finish fermenting without the presence of too much tannin. This gives our chilled red a lovely fresh and supple profile. This year our chilled red is made of Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Viognier, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris - yum!
Mother’s Day is coming up (ahem…12 May if you weren’t sure) so it’s time to start thinking about organising something for the wonderful mum/mum figure/person who is mum to you in your life.
🍇
We know for a fact that our LOVE Greytown gift boxes - featuring a bottle of Alexia wine, a jar of Greytown honey and a table of Schoc chocolate go down extremely well.
🍇
Another favourite gift is a bottle of our 100% made and disgorged in house Blanc de Blancs bubbly. Many a mum has put their child on the ‘favourite’ list after receiving a bottle of this…
🍇
Or you could go for a bottle of the all time Alexia favourite - Gentle Girl Rosè.

Head to our website to make an excellent choice.
Feeling a bit better about all those hours we spent hand-destemming our Gamay last week after we pressed off the juice today. It’s tasting so weighty, ripe and delicious already!
Well hello Chenin Blanc lovers! Very pleased to tell you that after 2 years of no Chenin, we have just picked a beautiful little parcel of this lovely variety. Not much around in Wairarapa but it’s an absolute favourite to make and is super popular at the cellar door. Can’t wait to see how it progresses over the coming months!
Filling barrels…getting the Pinot Noir in place for a little winter slumber.
Crazy commitment or just plain crazy? We spent half of Saturday hand-destemming half a tonne of Gamay. It looks great though!
A lovely little Gamay pick yesterday - just Jane, Lesley and Robyn on the picking duties but we managed to bag a beautiful little parcel. It’s been 2 years since we’ve been able to make Gamay so we are very happy to have this pick!
Can we do it again next year?
