A milestone that deserves to be celebrated. Pencil in your diaries for Wellington anniversary weekend 2016 and we look forward to seeing you then. The Programme

Thanks to everyone who helped out at the Working Bee today. The grounds are looking very neat and tidy. The Pizzas went down well after all the hard work!
Congratulations to Robbie Smith and Dion Russell for winning Top Dogs (18 Hole Match Play) and Val Munro and Viv McAlister for winning Top Cats (9 Hole Match Play)
The first meeting of the new Committee was held on Tuesday 13 September. We took the opportunity to get a photo of the Committee except for Dave Pepere.
The Committee members are Scott Barnett (President), Ron Fairbairn (Vice President), Dave Pepere (Vice President), Bruce Ivamy (Treasurer), Mary Sagato (Secretary), Robbie Blair (Club Captain), Jamie Coleman (Club Captain), Peter Minnoch (Handicapper), Andy Cantrick, Rob Deakin, Steve Hanrahan, Billy Lunn, Viv McAlister and Val Munro.
A magic morning on the golf course today
The next member we are profiling is Bruce Ivamy. Members will definitely know Bruce as he is always in the office working away in his role as Treasurer. He is also first point of contact for many new members or people enquiring about membership.
𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐠𝐨𝐥𝐟?
In 1976, I made the foolish mistake of agreeing to caddy for my mother when she wanted to play a round at the Picton golf course. I had a couple of shots, got hooked and have been playing since.
𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐚 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐭 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐨𝐥𝐟 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐛?
Since the 10th February 1994. I had moved to Wellington with my work in the New Zealand Post Office in 1979. In late 1993-early 1994 I got talked into transferring my membership from Picton Golf Club to Mornington by Russell Lindsay.
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐨𝐥𝐟 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐛?
The friendly attitude of members. Also Mornington members like to mix frequently unlike larger Clubs.
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞?
That's an easy answer, the current 12th hole. Prior to the reconfiguration, I managed a Hole in One on the par 4, 13th Hole playing with Heath and Fraser Anderson in 2001.
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐥𝐟 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐲?
In early 1980s I was on a 5 day golfing trip to Taupo. A mate and I played the 2 Taupo courses in one day. The person running the Pro Shop asked if we like company for the afternoon round. We had no problem with that. Introductions were made. I missed one of the player’s surname. Brian said he played off a 2 handicap and it showed. After the game Brian had to leave early. His mate informed us that we had been playing with Brian Fairlie, a New Zealand tennis representative around the same time as Onny Parun.
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 “𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭” 𝐛𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐨𝐥𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞?
Relax and enjoy the fun of playing a lovely outdoor sport at any age.
𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝟑 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐮𝐩 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞?
Jack Webster (who taught me how to play golf), my Aunt Jean Rutherfurd (who at her best played off a 5 handicap) and Bob Charles.
Nice to see so many families out on the course today including one of our junior players, Spencer, and his Dad and sister.
Meet 𝐖𝐚𝐢 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫. Wai started playing golf in November, 2003 in Gisborne and joined Mornington Golf Club in December 2003. We asked Wai some questions about her experience playing golf at Mornington.
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐠𝐨𝐥𝐟 𝐚𝐭 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐨𝐥𝐟 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐛? My favourite thing about belonging to and playing golf at Mornington has to be the friendship between the members and the community that forms from that
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬e? I like No. 9 because it’s a Par 5
𝐃𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐥𝐟 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮? Last time I played Hole 9 I used a 9 iron to come on to the green but those I was playing with thought they saw the ball go over the green. We were hunting high and low at the back of the green, only to find the ball was in the hole.
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐨𝐥𝐟 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞? Keep your head down when you’re approaching the ball
𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐮𝐩 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞? I'd say the Maori boys because they aren't as competitive; we all just play our own game.
In the photo below, Wai almost got a hole in one on Hole No. 11
