Join us as we bear the light of hope this month of September, marking Tuesday, September 10, as World Su***de Prevention Day. Starting today, we can make a difference, as the theme for the year 2024-2026 is focused on "Changing the Narrative on Su***de" with the call to action "Start the Conversation."
Together, let us break the stigma and change the narrative on su***de and mental health. We start the conversation with an important reminder: ๐๐ฉ ๐๐จ ๐ค๐ ๐๐ฎ ๐ฉ๐ค ๐๐จ๐ ๐๐ค๐ง ๐๐๐ก๐ฅ.
We understand that asking for help can be difficult as it initially feels uncomfortable, stirring up a sense of shame and guilt. Many of us worry about being a burden or appearing weak. It is normal to feel that way, but we should break this misconception because Reaching out shows we are not alone in our journey. We are definitely not an inconvenience.
Hand in hand, letโs embrace the power of asking for help. As allies for this cause, share this post and be a living testimony in keeping the hope alive.

On September 10, 2024, BCNSHS-Guidance Office in coordination with SSLG and LINK Club conducted a su***de awareness booth, handing out yellow ribbons, emergency hotline stickers, and other fun stickers to students and faculty. All were encouraged to wear yellow ribbons, symbolizing they are open to be of help and a reminder that people are not alone as they roam around the corridors of their school, even outside the confines of the school.
The BCNSHS-Guidance Officeโs sincerest hope is for each one to feel seen and heard. This starts within ourselves so start letting yourself take space. Let us hear your thoughts and see you for who you are ๐ซถ The activity was facilitated by the SLU-Psychology Interns.

This September, we raise awareness for Su***de Prevention Month with one important message: Itโs okay to ask for help. Every life is precious, and no one should feel alone in their struggle. By encouraging open conversations, spreading kindness, and educating ourselves, we can help prevent su***de and support those in need.

Having a purpose in life is associated with all kinds of benefits. Research suggests that purpose is tied to having better health, longevity, and even economic success. It feels good to have a sense of purpose, knowing that you are using your skills to help others in a way that matters to you.
But how do you go about finding your purpose if itโs not obvious to you? Is it something you develop naturally over the course of a lifetime? Or are there steps you can take to encourage more purpose in your life?
Why Making A Positive Impact Matters?
Making the world a better place can seem overwhelming on a large scale. Though one person may not have the capacity to change the world single-handedly, you have the power to make a positive impact little by little every day. The accumulation of spreading kindness, love, and empowerment is rewarding and will create real change. Making a positive impact can be as simple as listening deeply, positively influencing someoneโs life, and getting involved in your community.
WAYS TO MAKE AN IMPACT
Empathize And Listen.
-We all have tough days. Maybe itโs the weather, school, or personal stressors. Being able to provide a safe space through deep listening creates trust. When you build trust, people feel inspired to share openly and respond kindly. Imagine a person where you both trust each other, listen to what the other party has to say, and do your best to understand the other personโs experience or point of view.
Acknowledge And Inspire Someone Into Action.
-Taking time to recognize someone by letting them know you see their efforts, talents, or resilience informs them that they are valuable and appreciated. Creating this type of environment, whether youโre in school or at home, matters. As you affirm what you admire about others, you can inspire them to take action on something that will make a difference for them.
Get Involved With Your Community.
-Getting involved with your existing communities, networking circles, and friendships is one of the most direct ways to make a positive impact. It is a rewarding way to create a personal connection and to contribute to those around you. There is almost no limit to your impact by contributing to a cause that matters to you.

"Your self-esteem is the foundation on which your life is built. Cultivate confidence, nurture positivity, and watch yourself soar." ๐ฆ
Self-esteem refers to the overall opinion we have about ourselves, encompassing feelings of self-worth and self-respect. It is crucial for our mental well-being and how we navigate through life's challenges. Low self-esteem can have a significant impact on various aspects of our lives. Individuals with low self-esteem may experience feelings of inadequacy, self-doubt, and a lack of confidence in their abilities. This can lead to difficulties in forming and maintaining relationships, underachievement in school or work, and even mental health issues such as anxiety and depression.
Having a healthy level of self-esteem is essential for promoting self-love, resilience, and overall happiness. Remember, you are worthy of love and respect just as you are. Embrace your uniqueness and strengths to boost your self-esteem and live a fulfilling life. ๐

Family (/หfam(ษ)lฤ/)
"A family means having someone to love you unconditionally in spite of you and your shortcomings." (Lazenbury, 2018.)
An immediate family consists of parents, siblings, spouses, and children. But sometimes, families can look different. Some families consist of grandparents and grandchildren, while others comprise aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Our families aren't limited to our blood-related relatives; they can also be our friends, classmates, and other community members.
No matter what your family looks like, a family is a family when you are with people who appreciate, love, and care for you. As a member of the family, your part is to provide the same amount of love and care to your family members, making sure they feel safe and valued just as how they make you feel.
You can show appreciation towards your family by making time to be with them, giving them a hand, or even saying thank you and recognizing them for their efforts. Writing short "Thank you" notes or giving gifts are also ways you can show your gratitude for your family.

A little respect goes a long wayโฆ
Since we were young, Filipinos have already been taught the value of respect, especially towards the elderly. One way of showing respect is using the words โpo and โopoโ as signs of โpakikisama.โ As we grow older, we also become aware that using โpoโ and โopoโ is not the only way we can show respect.
At school, where different students and teachers come from various walks of life, we must remember that we are not all the same; there will be beliefs that may seem unique to you but common to them. We must be sensitive when interacting with others to avoid offending them. These small acts of kindness can help other people power through their daily lives. That is why we should appreciate everyone around us and always show them the kindness and respect we all deserve.
So take note at these small acts of respect and watch it go a long way in making people happy.

A meta-analysis on whether time management works found that time management plays a vital role in academic achievement, job performance, and well-being. With that, each of us has an active role in planning and organizing our responsibilities in the most efficient and effective way we can. (Aeon et al., 2021)
However, doing so can be difficult for most of us, especially when we are overwhelmed with the amount of tasks we have - and that's normal! Learning to manage our time does not come overnight, but taking a few small steps towards it will eventually help us adapt to whatever challenge we may face. โจ
So, to begin your steps, here is an acronym for you to remember:
Manage your time with T-I-M-E! โณ

Hi, bes! Nags-scroll ka nanaman! โChronically Onlineโ yarn? ๐โ
A study entitled Empathy, Cyberbullying, and Cybervictimization Among Filipino Adolescents revealed that the majority of the participants used social media applications more than seven times daily, their smartphones were the primary device they used, and most of the time, they watched videos in these applications. (Shannen et al., 2021)
As a Filipino adolescent, do you relate to the findings of the study above? Well, it is undeniable that most youth today can be described as โchronically online,โ which is not totally a bad thing.
